Role synopsis:

BP’s Communications Function aims to build BP’s reputation by proactively putting forward a clear, concise set of messages supported with powerful proof points to defined target audiences.

Sitting within the Corporate & Functions Communications team, this rolewill work closely with the communications manager, and senior leadership within the those functions, to build employee awareness of, and commitment to their business agenda, while fostering a strong sense of purpose and community across the employee base.

Additionally, this role will also supportthe Group Communications strategy which is a multi-year campaign to rebuild BP’s reputation.

Key accountabilities: This role will develop and implement communication programs for benefits-eligible participants using multiple media with the goal of promoting, informing and educating participants about the company’s benefits and HR policies/programs across the United States as well as other western hemisphere countries (as needed). Communications should promote efficient use of benefit programs and perceived value to participants while ensuring compliance with local laws. In addition, you are the content manager for US benefits related websites.

Accountabilities include:

  • Partners with pensions and benefits team to develop, implement and deliver BP's reward communications and channel.

  • Advises stakeholders on cost-efficient, engaging communication approaches and technologies for delivering benefits communication across the UK and MoW.

  • Implements cyclical benefits communication activity through audience-centric channels in line with simplification principles. In particular, drafting, editing and coordinating the content of materials, overseeing layout, design, printing and fulfillment/implementation.

  • Manages US benefits websites content, working with benefits and legal colleagues to ensure that content is up-to-date and accurate. Work with third party benefit providers to ensure message alignment with BP benefits messages, where possible. Work with HRIS team members to ensure timely publication of content.

  • Utilises insights from various employee metrics to support development and implementation of an annual communications plan, to improve engagement of BP employees through enhancing their understanding and appreciation of their BP benefits as part of their overall Reward.

  • Acts as a liaison with contractors, consultants, print/fulfillment vendors and other external partners to ensure cost effective and timely production and distribution of communication materials.

  • Manages ad hoc communication campaigns as assigned, all components of Westlake campus annual benefits fair and maintain communication sample library.

  • Shares communications best practice with fellow team members and fosters compliance with Group Communications Policy.

  • Keeps current with emerging technologies and social media and consults with client team on best utilization.

Essential Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in English or Communication, and/or equivalent qualification.

Essential experience and job requirements:

  • Engaging writer with experience working with complex information. Summarizes and conveys messages effectively, ensures messages are correct and aligned with other communications. Creates interesting stories. Maintains accuracy and sensitivity.

  • Excellent presentation skills. Delivers virtual and face-to-face presentations to varying audience sizes, including leadership teams.

  • Proven project management skills. Develops and delivers multi-channel, segmented or targeted communication projects plans.

  • Ability to influence client teams. Develops business cases and white papers to influence decisions.

  • Ability to multi-task. Works within time-bound deadlines and a pressurized environment.

  • Creative and innovative thinker.

  • Minimum of two years’ work experience.

  • Good understanding of new and emerging communication technologies.

  • Business acumen and the ability to navigate across large, complex organisations.

  • Ability to quickly establish credibility and respect as well as ability to take personal accountability.

  • Relationship building and networking with stakeholders; understanding the importance of collaboration in order to achieve results.

  • Ability to remain flexible under changing priorities.

  • Experience of working with a network of contacts, consultants and/or suppliers, including video production and creative agencies.

  • Experience with script writing, managing project and production crews, casting calls, casting selection, and location logistics.
