With TransCanada's growth in meeting the demands for energy across North America, we are now seeking a Senior Human Resources professional to support our US Gas Operations teams, reporting to the Manager of HR Consulting and Labor Relations. The position will be based out of our Houston Office.

In delivering human resource management and organizational effectiveness consulting expertise to the business, the successful candidate works in collaboration with subject matter experts. The successful candidate partners with client area business leaders to formulate and guide the implementation of people strategies to achieve business goals and objectives. This position is part of a geographically dispersed HR team in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico who together provide HR support to clients across North America.


  • Provide both strategic and operational human resource management and organizational effectiveness expertise in the areas of organizational design, resource planning and recruitment, total compensation, employee relations, performance management, leadership coaching, leadership development, and change management;

  • Influence the design of enterprise wide HR programs, practices and processes;

  • Provide support to the on-boarding of new leaders and employees in the client area, ensuring the integration of current human resource programs, processes and practices;

  • Provide leadership coaching to the leadership teams and other senior professionals to support retention and optimize productivity;

  • In partnership with HR subject matter experts, design, develop and implement tailored human resource strategies and plans that contribute to the overall success of the client groups for example: compensation, retention practices, workforce planning, & leadership development;

  • Participate as an integral member of the client leadership teams to ensure the people and organizational perspective is considered in all proposed business decisions and organizational changes;

  • Ensure the Manager, HR Consulting and Labor Relations is aware of issues, potential risks, and progress by providing regular updates and feedback related to human resource services required for client groups;

  • Other tasks as required. Qualifications and Education Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of applicable US labor laws and regulations;

  • Understanding of the following HR disciplines: consulting and coaching, employee relations, labor relations, communications, organizational design, recruitment and selection, building high performance teams, conflict management, performance management, learning and development, and project management;

  • Demonstrates business acumen and internal consulting skills;

  • Proven ability to balance multiple and sometimes competing priorities within tight timelines;

  • Strong ability to analyze complex issues and determine the best solution or course of action to meet client needs;

  • Able to think systemically and anticipate impacts to other groups, systems and processes;

  • Plans, organizes and prioritizes work, both HR functional and business facing;

  • Can influence at all levels within the client area and be a contributing member of the client leadership teams;

  • Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written;

  • A self-starter, with demonstrated initiative, tenacity and flexibility;

  • Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships. Education / Experience:

  • A relevant university degree and recent course work in human resource management and organizational effectiveness;

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in an HR consultant role; preferably in the energy sector;

  • A professional designation is desired such as a Professional in Human Resources Certification (PHR) and previous experience working in an HR consultant role supported by HR subject matter experts.

**In the performance of these roles, travel of 25-30% is required to various client locations across borders, and as such the successful candidate must be able to provide applicable documentation to this effect.
