Overtime Status: Nonexempt (N) Reports to/Dept: Production Supervisor Shift: 8-12hr rotating shifts- OT required as needed SUMMARY The Lift Truck Operator (LTO) - Material Handler position is an hourly position, and reports to the Production Shift Supervisor. The employee is responsible for ensuring that the forklift needs for the production line are met. This position will be responsible for the safe operation of forklifts and other powered industrial vehicles and provide support for the operation of the production line via loading, transporting, or stacking of raw materials, trash bins, and sand etc. Principal Duties and Responsibilities : SAFETY Follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures, training, and initiatives Inspect vehicles before use and throughout shift Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas Participate on safety teams QUALITY Interface with plant employees to provide quality control information Evaluate mat for damage Evaluate all mat for proper weight by product Check glue levels and ensure glue gun works prior to each splice Ensure straight, well-bonded splicing is performed Evaluate layout board Monitor and report unusual or suspect material issues PRODUCTION Operate powered industrial vehicles to Unload trucks Stage raw materials for daily use on line Load sand, adhesive, and sealant for use on line Empty hoppers Place and remove bins in various production work areas Clean plant floors and production work areas Load and stack rewraps for autocatchers Assist in all lace-ups throughout the line Keep all production forklifts clean and operational Accurately report the amount of scrap and seconds for tracking Participate as team leader to communicate and coordinate the requirements needed to meet production goals Interface with plant employees to provide process control information Listen for alarms and respond appropriately to the various alarm signals Participate on process teams SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be able to operate forklift Must be able to read, write, and speak English Must have the ability to do basic mathematical calculations Must be able to work at a reasonably fast pace Must be able to work flexible shift schedules Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility are required Must be able to work with a computer to perform basic data entry COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES Must be able to operate a computer or other keyboard instrument EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Minimum high school diploma or equivalent ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT Ability to distinguish colors and shading Exposure to temperature extremes Exposure to sounds or noise levels (with hearing protection) that may otherwise be uncomfortable Exposure to dust/dirt and fiberglass Prolonged sitting or standing for 8 – 12 hour shifts Frequent bending or twisting Rotating work shifts Mandatory overtime as required Please note: The Owens Corning Houston plants are becoming tobacco-free campuses in 2016.
