Sysco Corp Merchandiser- Protein Procurement in Houston, Texas
Responsible for purchasing, procuring product, costing product, maintaining quality and performing inventory control. This position is also responsible for maintaining and increasing market share by satisfying customer needs and meeting management objectives.
Director of Merchandising
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of degree sufficient to successfully perform essential job functions required
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Three (3) years purchasing experience required.
Three 3) years protein-related purchasing preferred.
Three (3) years intensive protein knowledge.
One (1) year experience in a sales related position preferred.
General understanding of distribution and warehousing procedures preferred.
Proven ability to communicate effectively over the phone, good negotiating and interpersonal skills and ability to handle stress effectively.
General understanding of computers.
Order product and input Purchase Orders accurately into the system.
Input orders from other purchasing staff if necessary.
Adjust orders in inventory based upon passing documentation.
Source other vendors, monitor billing rates and constantly check product for quality.
Physically review inventory daily, reviewing quality and quantity.
Coordinate produce ordering from various departments to take advantage of volume purchases.
Review market reports daily.
Advise appropriate people of trends or changes in the protein markets.
Ensure a minimal amount of out of stocks.
Daily communication with the sales staff regarding arrivals and new items.
Having protection on shrink with shipper credits.
Identify customer needs and satisfy them profitability.
Maintain existing customer base through effective customer service skills.
Follow through with customer requests.
Introduce new items to customers.
Suggestively sell product identified as push items.
Monitor customer gross profit levels and adjust as needed.
Ability to negotiate earned income programs with new and existing suppliers.

The employee is occasionally exposed to congested and high traffic areas and moving mechanical parts and vehicles, including but not limited to forklifts, single pallet jacks, electric walk behind jacks, and hand carts. The employee is periodically exposed to varying climates with temperatures ranging from zero to ninety-five degrees Fahrenheit.
