CACI is looking for a highly experienced and talented space vehicle hardware / software test and integration systems engineer with strong human-rated space vehicle flight software background to work within the NASA / Johnson Space Center’s engineering community on the development of the Orion Program. This “hands-on” engineering position involves flight software systems engineering and integration with emphasis on hardware/software integration & test, and technical oversight of flight software test development. This work requires technical leadership and coordination, systems engineering and integration, and collaboration with multiple vehicle systems teams, such as flight software, simulation, data system, mission operations, ground operations, launch facilities, etc.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Hardware in the Loop Test Development, Test Conduction, and Test Reporting using emulators to verify the integrated avionics system for the Space Launch System (SLS), Launch Control System (LCS), and Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV)

  • Provide test support to the Avionics and Ground Systems

  • Tracking and reporting progress and timely completion of milestones is essential.

  • Troubleshooting and testing in support of distributed computing and simulation of launch vehicle and spacecraft systems

  • Oversight of software testing, integration of software loads, and hardware/software integration tests in lab facilities

  • Develop test plans, verification plans, test procedures and test facilities

  • Evaluate test plans, verification plans, test procedures and test facilities

  • Evaluate risks and risk mitigation type testing

  • Write technical documents including test plans, procedures and reports

  • Review program/project documents and provide relevant comments from a Hardware/Software test perspective

  • Interface with NASA and MPCV prime contractor engineering teams

  • Assist in producing integrated schedules, management reports

  • Participate in or conduct meetings in support of the above activities

  • Travel to the Orion prime contractor facility and NASA facilities, including MSFC and KSC

This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise and leadership abilities, the individual must be very people savvy, possess a positive team-player attitude, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner.

Background & Experience


  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • B.S/M.S. in Computer Science/Engineering, or Aerospace, Electrical, Software, or Systems Engineering or related disciplines, and 10-20 years in aerospace vehicle systems engineering, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, or Orion.

  • Individual should possess flight software experience, and extensive knowledge of flight software architecture, test development, test rigs, hardware connectivity, hardware/software interaction, real-time and non-real-time simulation.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience using simulation in HWIL systems testing.

  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong communication skills and work ethic.

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and 10 to 12 years related experience.


Experience in Orion, Time-triggered network, TTNET, Rhapsody, LDRA.

Knowledge in aerospace vehicle subsystems, particularly Orion, and operations. Ability to perform hands-on integration and troubleshooting support, including proficiency with basic lab hardware and software diagnostic tools.
