Rice University Parking Enforcement Officer in Houston, Texas

Position Information
Position Summary

With minimal supervision from the Department Administrator, the Parking Enforcement Officer will enforce the Rice University traffic and parking regulations throughout the campus. The Parking Enforcement Officer will also act as an ambassador for the university, providing directions, explaining parking regulations to visitors and members of the community, and assisting individuals in complying with the traffic and parking regulations.

License/Certification Required

Valid Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment) required with no more than three moving violations within the past 36 months and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

  • Ability to make effective job-related decisions.

  • Ability to deal with irate, unruly, and uncooperative persons in a professional, civil manner.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

Internal / External Contacts

The individual in this position is a highly visible representative of the police department and the university. This person in this position will answer questions regarding parking and the university for visitors and members of the university community and will be in constant contact with the public. The individual in this position must exhibit a pleasant personality and cooperative attitude.

Physical Demands
  • Must have a minimal mechanical ability to be able to apply and remove vehicle immobilization devices.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and stoop for extended periods of time during an eight hour shift.

  • Must be able to operate a handheld ticket writing device.

Working Conditions
  • Works outdoors and in all types of weather conditions including rain, heat, and cold.

  • Wears assigned uniform.

  • Able to work mandatory overtime during peak seasons (fall and spring) and as necessary.
