As a Physician Assistant, you will provide medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include observing and assessing any changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and scope of practice of assigned grade. Duties also include psychiatric screening/evaluation, completing a full psychiatric assessment, psychiatric medication management, counseling/education and coordination of the veteran's overall mental health care and treatment for a diagnostically diverse population. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (may be required to work weekends, evenings, or other irregular tours of duty)

Qualifications And EvaluationQualifications
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education. The candidate must meet the following (1) Graduate of a PA training program, or of a surgical assistant program which is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission of Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations and (2) A Bachelor's degree from an accredited PA training program or in another health sciences related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Certification. (1) Current and continuous certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) is required for employment in VHA.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
