Job Description

Summary of the Job:

The Program Assistant is responsible for providing support services for students with disabilities and assisting the college in meeting the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Program Assistant performs work requiring knowledge and experience specific to providing resources and support to students, faculty, and staff; performs administrative support tasks, and processes all program related expenditures.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as first point of contact for registered/prospective students, faculty and staff to discuss Disabilities Services policies, procedures, and other general information
  • Prepares budget expenditure logs, budget reconciliations, and processes invoices
  • Prepares contracts and requisitions
  • Assists with performing administrative duties (e.g., answering phones, creating files, coordinating travel arrangements, ordering office supplies, updating departmental logs, etc.)
  • Assists with supervising student workers

Marginal Duties:

  • Assists with special projects and/or tasks unique to the department
  • Researches needed information as requested by Director (e.g., assistive devices, vendors, community resources)
  • Assists with coordinating and proctoring exams
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Interacts extensively with employees, customers, vendors, regulatory bodies, and other Institutions over the telephone, by email, and/or in person.


  • Knowledge of general office and budget management principles and practices
  • Familiarity with Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Amendments of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Familiarity with basic etiquette practices for people with disabilities
  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position

  • Candidates must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Required Education:

  • Minimum of 60 hours of completed college course work

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of job‐related experience
