Position Description:

Position Summary:

A Senior Accountant with financial reporting responsibilities in the Variable Product Accounting and Reporting Group is involved in the preparation and reconciliation of monthly and quarterly financial statements for multiple separate accounts. Duties of the accountant also include preparation of statements and supporting schedules for year-end STAT and GAAP audits. The staff accountant must have advanced MS Excel skills and be able to maintain and modify existing complex spreadsheets used for reconciliation and reporting. The accountant will also have duties completing monthly analysis presentations and reconciliations for various audit groups, senior management and to support the monthly and year end STAT and GAAP Statements. The key to success in this position is having solid financial reporting knowledge, being proactive, detail oriented, plus exhibiting exceptional computer skills. The accountant will also be involved in special projects that could include developing new processes and problem solving specific trouble points. This job will evolve over the next twelve months and will probably encompass other duties not listed here.

Organization Structure and Interfaces:

This position reports to the Director of Variable Product Accounting and Reporting. This position works closely with Financial Reporting and with the Finance Center in India.

Performance Objectives:

Complete the assigned responsibilities by utilizing the different proprietary systems available. Use SAP and Microsoft Excel to generate monthly and quarterly financial statements, reconciliations, and analysis. Ask questions and escalate issues when assistance is needed.

Detailed job duties and procedures exist for this role. The candidate must quickly learn the duties and then maintain the documentation of the same.

Master the use and maintenance of Excel spreadsheets that serve as the source for the majority of the analysis and reporting this position will be performing.

Gain an understanding of how separate account reporting relates to AIG’s global financial reporting structure.

Learn about market and economic factors that drive the business and financial results.

Quickly develop relationships with various internal and external departments and key contacts.

Meet rigid reporting deadlines set by corporate management, internal management, external auditors and other outside customers with no errors. Reports should include valid and complete financial data and agree to the ledger systems. Automate various functions and processes related to monthly close duties whenever possible. Identify process improvement opportunities to streamline workflow, increase efficiency and develop controls to ensure the accuracy of data. Maintain accurate and well-documented work papers that support all work produced.Complete Ad Hoc projects as requested.

Position Requirements:

The ideal candidate for this role needs to have 5 to 7 years accounting and/or financial reporting experience.

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

The candidate must have the ability to analyze data and research technical, accounting and financial issues.

Insurance, mutual fund or financial services industry experience is required.

The candidate must be able to work with little supervision and make informed decisions. Technical expertise must include strong knowledge of MS Excel, accounting and an overall understanding of the markets and mutual funds.

The ability to work in a fast-paced multi-company, multi-systems environment with regular deadlines is the key to success.

Rapid, constant change must be handled on a day-to-day basis.

Experience working in a large company environment is preferred.
