The products offered by the Ocean Marine Division of Great American Insurance Group help America's marine businesses stay afloat! The major product lines we underwrite within the Ocean Marine Division include Commercial Hull, Protection and Indemnity (P&I), Marine Liabilities (Primary and Excess), Boat Dealers and Marinas, Ocean Cargo, Vessel Pollution, and non-marine classes to supplement these.
The Ocean Marine Division is currently searching for a Service Associate for our Houston office located in the Westchase District. The person hired for this position will perform a variety of underwriting support, rating, and policy administration tasks in support of the business and within established production and quality guidelines.
The job level will depend on the successful applicant’s level of experience.
Reviews instructions from agent, underwriter, insured, broker, etc. to assist, understand, and determine what is needed to provide quotes, issuances, renewals, endorsements, etc.
Computes premiums on quotes, issuances, renewals, audits, endorsements, cancellations and reinstatements based on proper rate selection, rules and company procedures.
Enters rate, premium and policy information into appropriate systems for policy updates / issuance.
Communicates with producers regularly to assist in business production and to resolve underwriting and administration issues.
Maintains file accuracy and completeness.
Orders, prepares and updates reports (i.e., loss reports, financial reports, loss run requests, etc.) and legal notices (i.e., Notice of Cancellation, non-renewal notices etc. )
Sets up and clears submissions.
Researches and resolves errors and issues.
Prepares, assembles and issues policy / endorsements and associated documentation.
Researches and reconciles premium / billing accounting discrepancies. Responds to premium / billing questions.
Performs preliminary risk evaluation and / or loss analysis.
Utilizes computerized systems for research, tracking, information gathering and / or troubleshooting (i.e., Excel / Word programs, legacy systems, internal systems, third party vendor delivered systems, etc.).
Shares and / or conveys the most complex information via telephone, e-mail, fax, regular mail or in person to underwriters, agents, brokers, reinsurers and / or insureds maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations.
May participate in other departmental processes / projects, such as changes / enhancements to forms and screens, user acceptance testing for systems and policies, and reviewing impact to current policies and practices.
May act as a liaison with other departments and facilitate interdepartmental communication.
Perform other tasks including support, photocopying, imaging, mail, data entry, agent contracting support and supply functions.
Demonstrates expert knowledge of department policies and procedures and utilizes broad understanding of the business (including products, coverages, etc.) and organization. Complies with company and regulatory guidelines.
As appropriate for line of business, may approve new business, renewal business and / or endorsements based on a defined set of instructions and guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum of 2-5 years related experience. Ocean marine or other insurance experience is preferred.
Intermediate skills with MS Office including Word and Excel
