Job Description

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for identifying, developing and implementing partnerships with large commercial and industrial rate class customers on energy management, power quality, business development and related issues to improve their efficiency and expanded use of energy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain databases of key account commercial customers, including customer contact information and interactions

  • Serve as initial point of contact for key account customers and resolve issues on rates, billing, metering, power quality, service reliability, facility expansion or modification and internal operations

  • Serve as initial point of contact for key account customers during outages and work with Operations to assist customers in making determinations on how to proceed during outages

  • Coordinate with other departments and employees to obtain information requested by key account customers

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of commercial customers’ business operations to provide relevant information that assists them with improving productivity and lowering costs

  • Analyze rates on a periodic basis to determine if they are appropriately applied and calculated

  • Ensure that customers’ usage is properly metered, billed on the appropriate rate schedule and recommend changes

  • Prepare sample bills and other projections for new, existing or companies seeking to expand

  • Facilitate the process of developing, implementing and updating programs and proposals to be pursued as partnerships with key accounts, including evaluation, measurement and verification, budgeting and marketing according to departmental and Cooperative standards

  • Facilitate the process of developing services for power quality, load shifting and improving load factor

  • Educate consumers on conservation and energy efficiency programs and initiatives and recommend ways to save energy and more effectively utilize electricity

  • Initiate and support various communication methods such as periodic newsletters, email, web pages, videos and direct mailings

  • Administer commercial rebate programs by actively promoting current offerings to meet goals set for performance evaluations and cost effectiveness

  • Assist with damage claims

  • Collaborate with fellow team members and actively participate in brainstorming and problem-solving efforts

  • Meet project deadlines

  • Benchmark for best practices and make reports and recommendations to management

  • Maintain and promote organizational efficiency and budgetary awareness

  • Provide solutions to key accounts by maintaining awareness of governmental regulations and Cooperative policies and procedures

  • Develop business relationships and maintain awareness of industry trends and activities to help meet customer needs

  • Foster relationships with commercial and industrial customers to promote and implement programs offered by governing agencies, i.e. The Public Utility Commission, ERCOT, etc.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new and innovative rates for industrial commercial class of customers

  • Maintain the security of confidential information

  • Stay abreast of advances in technology

Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities: May provide leadership to less experienced employees

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service

  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code

  • Knowledge of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration

  • Knowledge of building and energy codes

  • Knowledge electrical metering & billing

  • Knowledge of power generation & delivery

  • Skilled in time management

  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities

  • Skilled in electrical troubleshooting and energy auditing

  • Ability to calculate bills from current and proposed rate tariffs

  • Ability to conduct benchmarking and research

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to stay progressive in related job knowledge

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing

  • Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems

Minimum Qualifications – (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensure):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Energy Conservation, Business or related field

  • Five years of utility experience

  • Three years experience in key or business accounts management

  • AEE Certified Energy Manager preferred

  • Energy Audit Certification

  • Industrial Lighting Training Certification

  • Additional training in utility operations, energy efficiency, demand side management, commercial energy auditing and computer applications preferred

  • Valid Texas Drivers License
