Job Description

Position Summary:Tests meters and relays for accuracy. Performs preventive maintenance, repair and unscheduled troubleshooting on meters, relays, and other equipment. Installs meter and relay equipment. Reports to Supervisor - Electro Mechanics. Provides work direction to other technicians and line personnel as required. Assumes such authority as may be delegated.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:Perform routine yearly tests, calibration and repair on electromechanical and solid state and microprocessor meters and relays. Verify proper adjustment and operation of circuit switchers and motor operators. Install and verify proper operation of survey, revenue, and interchange metering by performing power factor and load flow tests. Install and maintain associated equipment; i.e. electronic recorders, pulse multipliers, and transducers. Perform routing calibration and repair of electromechanical and solid state relays. Install and verify proper operation of all types of relaying schemes for line, transformer, and underfrequency. Perform electrical test, calibration, and repair on 15kv and 27kv reclosers, ranging from oil circuit reclosers to microprocessor controlled/vacuum interrupter reclosers. Perform electrical tests, repair and verify proper electrical operation of 69kv to 345kv OCB's and GCB's. Perform electrical tests, calibration, repair, and inspection on windings and tap changers on transformers, regulators and mobile substations. Test and repair load tap changer and regulator controls ranging from electromechanical, solid state and microprocessor. Install all control house fixtures and hardware associated with metering and relaying; i.e. relay panels, battery bank, cable tray, lighting and station service equipment. Run conduit (underground and aboveground) and pull and terminate all control wiring in control house and yard. Operates test equipment including volt meter, ammeter, phase angle meter, meggar meter, phase shifter, rotating and electronic meter standards and turn ratio tester, gas analyzer, Hipot and other test equipment. Maintains files on test records and equipment manuals. Performs test and repair of relays, meters, breakers and controls during generation plant overhaul. Establishes and maintains contacts with company personnel and others outside the Cooperative necessary in the performance of the job. Maintains vehicles, tools and equipment in proper working order. Basic computer knowledge to include Word and Excel. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements:High School Diploma or equivalent Certificate plus an Associates Degree in Electronics or Electrical Power Technology from a school such as Texas State Technical College. Advancement requires continuing education as deemed appropriate by Supervision through one or more of the following Brazos Electric approved sources: A) Correspondence courses, B) Technical Certification, C) Short courses and technical schools. Minimum experience requirement is two (2) years of electrical or electronic work experience.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:Requires working outside in varying environmental and weather conditions and temperature extremes. Requires working at night inside or outside in all weather conditions. Requires lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying of weights equal to 50 pounds or less. Requires pushing, pulling and reaching above the shoulders. Requires kneeling, crawling, bending or twisting while lifting arms above shoulders and stooping for extended periods of time, in order to accomplish duties while grasping, pulling or pushing objects or manipulating tools. Requires walking and/or standing for extended periods of times. Requires sitting for extended periods of time while riding in a motor vehicle. Requires wearing personal safety equipment. Requires manual and detailed hand work using both hands. Also may require repetitive manual tasks. Requires living within a 30 minute response time. Requires working overtime and traveling at times with short notice. Must be able to obtain required drivers license. Requires hearing within normal range. Hearing aids are permitted. Requires vision within normal range. Corrective lens are permitted.
