Facility Information Lockhart is a 1000 bed female facility located in Lockhart Texas. Beginning September 1, 2015 this facility will be operated by Management & Training Corporation (MTC) under contract with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

Essential Functions

Responsible for the duties involving general maintenance and repairs on equipment and buildings, assisting with technical trades such as plumbing, electrical, painting and carpentry functions in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform maintenance and repair of electrical systems, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning. Recommend contracted assistance when on-center repair is not possible.

  2. Perform routine schedule checks of air conditioning systems.

  3. Assist with repair or replacement of faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets and fuses as directed, which may include standing or climbing on a ladder to perform such functions.

  4. Perform minor construction and repair of structural woodwork.

  5. Install window shades or coverings, security locks, etc.

  6. Help prepare surfaces for finishing, i.e., painting, as directed.

  7. Direct offenders assigned to facility maintenance, which includes long periods of sitting and standing.

  8. Perform preventive maintenance checks of buildings and equipment.

  9. Perform on-call support in emergency situations when equipment malfunctions.

  10. Provide cleaning, transportation, moving of equipment as needed.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and one of the following:

• Two (2) years full-time, wage-earning experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of HVAC or refrigeration systems and equipment. Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for each year of experience on a year-for-year basis for a maximum substitution of one year.

• An associate’s degree in HVAC or Refrigeration from a college or university accredited by CHEA or USDE.

• Completion of a program in HVAC or Refrigeration from a trade or technical school accredited by CHEA or USDE.

• Completion of a program in HVAC or Refrigeration from a U.S. military technical training school.

Current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Type 608 Universal Containment Certification required. Must maintain valid certification for continued employment in the position. Experience in the installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems preferred. Experience in the supervision of offenders preferred. Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
