Texas Tech University Tradesman in Lubbock, Texas
Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Assembles, installs, or arranges structures or fixtures in exhibit galleries working with maintenance and installation personnel; in accordance with criteria that meets Museum Accreditation Standards. Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required. Maintain records and documentation on work accomplished, and provide written progress reports. Requisitions all necessary supplies and materials as needed and keeps accurate records of all and labor expended on each job. Install structures or fixtures, such as windows, frames, flooring, trim, or hardware, using carpenters' hand or power tools. Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws. Construct museum exhibits, frames, housing, mounts, cabinets, counters, desks, shelves, pegboards, and other miscellaneous items, through use of specialized woodworking, metal working and welding and carpentry. Select and order lumber or other required materials.
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyman.
Advanced knowledge of building and construction material, advanced knowledge of mechanical machines and tools, advanced knowledge of design techniques and precision of technical plans. Previous experience in museum exhibit design.
