The Coordinator of Infection Prevention and Control is responsible for establishing and maintaining surveillance throughout the Hospital or Entity for Infection Control purposes. Identifies, investigates and records data concerning nosocomial infections. Initiates Infection Control measures. Meets the certification requirements of CBIC or degree in Nursing, medical technology, epidemiology, microbiology or public health.
I. Responsiblefor coordination of the Infection Prevention and Control activities inconjunction with the Medical Director.
II. Compilesand analyzes surveillance of infections in patients and personnel to identifynosocomial infections and distributes results to appropriate Committees.
III. Monitorspatient care activities to identify methods, techniques, equipment, supplies,ornew products which may constitute a risk of originating or transmittinginfection.
IV. Initiateschange through active participation on appropriate committees.
V. Develops and maintains isolationtechniques to comply with current standards of practice.
VI. Collaborates with alldisciplines and departments in the healthcare facility to incorporate InfectionPrevention and Control principles in policies and procedures to provide a safeenvironment for patients and personnel.
VII. Assess educational needs; coordinates,conducts and evaluates formal and informal educational programs pertaining toInfection Prevention and Control.
VIII. Participates in specialstudies designed to identify unusual epidemic situations or to evaluate theimpact of new procedures, equipment and delivery of patient care.
IX. Assures reporting ofcommunicable diseases to the appropriate Public Health authority.
X. Participatesin infection prevention and control educational activities of BHCS employeesand employees of contracted services.
XI. Keeps abreast of newdevelopments and information pertaining to healthcare Infection Prevention andcontrol through personal study and participation in formal activities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
RN, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Public Health College degree
2 Years of Experience or CBIC preferred
