We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Electrical Engineer II to participate in design efforts in the Research and Development of low-power medical devices. (S)he will participate in the creation of prototypes and development of systems as well as supporting ongoing research efforts geared toward future products.

Impact this role will have on St. Jude Medical:
Responsible for developing hardware architecture/platforms, including evaluation of different low-power microcontrollers and system-level tradeoffs, selection of peripheral components, and interfacing with custom ICs.
Designs circuit modules including circuit architecture development, component selection, schematic capture, and prototype development.
Models and analyzes circuits to assess/minimize risk and optimize for efficiency, manufacturability, testability and patient experience. Documents risks/mitigations, tolerance analysis, and theory of operation.
Develops test plans and systems to effectively and efficiently test circuit designs in both lab and production environments.
Reviews and writes protocols and reports for lab and formal verification testing.
Interprets technical design details to other teams and instructs them on the proper use/function of products & circuits.
Performs structured lab testing and writes reports to support engineering decisions, marketing plans, and manufacturing issues.
Interprets and incorporates medical device standard requirements into designs.
Performs detail oriented design reviews of technical and design documentation.
Presents design analysis, status, and design/project recommendations to design team and management.
Stays current on industry standards, mandates and recommendations (AIMD, RTT&E, Environmental, Safety, EMC, labeling, harmonized and normative standards); customer requirements and use cases, for implantable and external medical devices for chronic pain management and treatment of neurological disorders.
Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand St. Jude Medical’s marketplace success:
Strong writing ability and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
3+ years product development experience or a Master’s degree or higher.
Technical proficiency with analog (i.e. op-amps, comparators, transformers, MOSFETs, power transfer efficiency) and digital (i.e. embedded microprocessor hardware, communication buses, clock circuits) circuits.
Hands on circuit design / lab experience through a complete product development cycle.
Your preferred qualifications and education:
PCB design and layout experience desired.
Working knowledge of principals of statistics desired.
Familiarity with medical devices, IEC-60601, 21 CFR 820, ISO-14708-3, and/or neuromodulation is a plus.
