Job Description SummaryThis senior position is responsible for creating and leading the data and information management design and strategy for Actuarial and Finance Modernization.   • Provide design and guidance for Data model and Data strategy for the Actuarial and Finance Modernization Program.

  • Designs and develops Data architecture (i.e., integrated process, applications, data and technology) solutions to business problems in alignment with the division’s architecture approach and standards.

  • Champion Technology approaches (SDLC / Tools) to align business processes (Model Development) with their technology corollaries.

  • Exploit opportunities related to Data assets and champion the development of a real time, self-service, analytically driven business model; utilize business intelligence solutions, data visualization, big data, data marts and data warehouse systems to improve business processes, solve business problems and enhance decision making capabilities.

  • Keeping abreast of market events and industry changes.

  • Develop and mature data governance in alignment with the overall Transamerica data governance standards.

  • Partner with Actuarial and Finance to create an infrastructure and processes that ensure the highest standards of financial integrity are being attained and that can support the demands of future growth. This includes system design and architecture, data governance, terminology standardization, data integrity and overall management of data lifecycles.

  • Act quickly and appropriately to solve problems, bring clarity and minimize the impact of unforeseen circumstances. Drive consensus based decisions by exploring the wants, needs and concerns of all parties involved. Make decisions that create value based on logical assumptions, facts, available resources, constraints and organizational values.

  • Drive a culture of change and innovation which constructively challenges the status quo and leads to prudent experimentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a business related field or equivalent training/experience required

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience data management experience in a complex multi-system environment

  • Able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Knowledge of actuarial, finance and core insurance industry related data, systems, concepts, functions, challenges and risks

  • Experience in evaluating, selecting and working with technology tools relative to data (examples include Data Integration Tools, Metadata Tools, Business Intelligence tools, and Data Visualization)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Minimum of 8 years professional IT experience with previous architecture experience required.

  • Familiarity with multiple software development methodologies.

  • Experience with JIRA, Programming Languages (Java, C#), Databases (DB2, Oracle, SQL), Big Data (Hadoop), etc

  • Insurance industry finance transformation experience, including collaboration with finance/actuarial professionals

  • Change management experience or training
