Verizon Lead Security Engineer in Richardson, Texas


Position Responsibilities:

The Lead Security Engineer is responsible for the management of Verizon’s customer security infrastructure within the Security Operations Center (SOC). Primary responsibilities are divided into customer device Change Management and MSS Infrastructure management. Change Management responsibilities include the acceptance, review, and designing the change in accordance with the customer’s security standards for the Security Operations Center to implement. MSS Infrastructure management includes health monitoring, capacity planning, maintenance windows, RMA, and incident response.

The SOC Engineer is a skilled professional who possesses experience in configuration of and troubleshooting on a wide variety of security devices. This engineer is able to work as a member of a team and is able to communicate effectively and intelligently to our customer via phone, email or ticket escalations. The engineer is able to multi-task, take direction, prioritize and complete given assignments on a daily basis. The SOC Engineer should possess a working knowledge of how our customer’s specific security products operate, how networks interoperate, and how a managed security services provider delivers service to its customers. The engineer is extremely customer focused and is able to handle themselves in the face of adversity. The SOC Engineer will also have to understand how to build and restore devices onto the customer network.

Major Responsibilities include:

  • Complex Troubleshooting of Security Devices

  • Design and Engineer Change requests

  • On / Off boarding of devices to health platform

  • Escalation point for device based incidents

  • Training of engineers

  • Planning and overseeing Release management activities

  • RMA of security devices


Required Skills & Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years experience in a dedicated security position

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science / Security

  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with customers to understand their requirements

  • Able to identify gaps in processes and strong problem solving skills

  • Proactive in following up on customer issues

  • Ability to excel in high pressure environments

  • Experience in one of more of the follow security devices: F5 BIG IP, Palo Alto Firewalls, Juniper Firewalls, Ironport Proxy, and Great Bay

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • ITIL Foundations training / certification

  • 4 to 6 years enterprise experience

  • Security Certifications CCSE, CCSP, JNCIP, CISSP

  • Proficient in complex troubleshooting

  • Experience in Change Management process
