Manages the company’s national Catastrophe (CAT) response for the Claims organization by providing oversight, organization and coordination of external and internal resources. Reviews, evaluates and ensures high quality of claims handling during CAT responses.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and plans the company’ response to natural catastrophes or other emergencies for all lines of business. Plans for and ensures the availability of CAT Resources.

  • Provides ongoing management, oversight and coordination during a CAT Response. Manages associates responding to a CAT event.

  • Manages readiness, on-boarding and training for all associates and vendors designated to support Catastrophes. This includes preparing potential responders to promptly handle CAT volume, ensuring adequate staging and housing, instruction packages, sequencing of assignments, coding accuracy, and accurate settlements of our customers’ claims.

  • Prepares internal and external CAT reports including reports for Departments of Insurance (DOIs) and other agencies.

  • Ensures overall quality of appraisals handled in a CAT response.

  • Organizes property and auto response to CAT.

  • Develops and oversees Business Continuity Plans for all offices and shares with Enterprise Risk Management

  • Ensures proper maintenance of CAT physical resources including CAT trailers and IT equipment, phones, and other necessary tools to respond to customer needs.

  • Monitors and reports on cat performance against established metrics standards.

  • Supports property and auto appraisal teams.

  • Participates in the establishment of department goals and for implementing procedures and performance standards to achieve these goals.

  • Works with all stakeholders and leads all stakeholder efforts prior to, during and following catastrophes.

  • Works with Marketing, IT and other departments who are responsible for phone messaging (ie. IVR, customer call outs, etc.) during CATs.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with both internal and external customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and within a collaborative team-oriented environment using sound judgment in decision-making.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally with other departments within and outside of claims.

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and claims related software programs.

  • Demonstrated functional knowledge of claims handling.

Experience / Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a related field, or equivalent experience/education required.

  • Five or more years property and casualty claims management experience required.

  • Experience in responding and organizing response to CAT claims
