The College of Education and P-16 Integration is accepting applications for Chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is in the middle of one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, the southern tip of Texas known as the Rio Grande Valley. It is a newly-established, vibrant institution bringing together the assets and resources of the beautiful Rio Grande Valley and The University of Texas-Pan American and The University of Texas-Brownsville.
With a total enrollment approaching 28,000, UTRGV is one of the largest institutions of higher education in Texas and the second largest Hispanic-serving institution in the nation. An emphasis is placed on educating 21st century leaders and professionals, who are culturally fluent and have a deep understanding of the perspectives, languages, and values of different cultures. The College of Education and P-16 Integration offers master’s degree programs curriculum and instruction with specializations in digital literacy, elementary mathematics and science education, mathematics education, science education, and social studies education among others in educational leadership and counseling. We also offer Ed.D. Curriculum and Instruction with several specialization areas. The Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction was recently ranked 8th in the nation of “Best Online Ed.D. & Ph.D. “Programs in Education” by Gradsource. The College of Education and P-16 Integration is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Education or Ph.D. in Education.
Eligible for tenure at the associate or full professor rank at UTRGV.
Experience in teacher education programs.
Leadership experience in higher education setting.
Established record of scholarship.
Experience in higher education teaching.
Experience seeking external funding.
Scholarship related to Teacher Education in culturally diverse settings.
Experience fostering student success among traditional and non-traditional student populations.
Experience in P-12 settings.
Experience motivating faculty success in research, teaching, and service.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
