Scope of Job

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking applications for an Open Rank faculty position in the School of Nursing to begin appointment spring 2017. Duties include teaching students in classrooms, simulated laboratories, and clinical settings as well as student advisement. This position will function in the role of Program Coordinator of the PMHNP Post Master’s Certificate Program. Program Coordinator shall provide leadership in the following areas: 1) Direct the PMHNP post Master’s Certificate Program and manage workload of the assigned faculty; 2) Evaluate the curriculum as required by the accrediting agency on an annual basis; 3) Advise students about the preceptor requirements regarding clinical practice; and 4) Ensure program adherence to Texas Board of Nursing legislated regulations. UTRGV faculty are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV’s guiding principles ( which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Nursing or related health care field (Doctor of Nursing Practice will be considered) and Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing with completion of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Current RN licensure from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners and approval from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners to practice as a PMHNP. National Certification as a PMHNP.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience as a PMHNP in one of the following areas: adult adolescent, child and family health.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
