POSITION SUMMARY: The Cardiac Cath Lab Cardiovascular Prep and Recovery Unit (CPRU) RN, under the direction of the Cath Lab RN Supervisor, Cardiology Manager, and Cardiovascular services director, is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to adult and geriatric patients with a broad range of illnesses, admission/assessment of patients, medication administration, direct and indirect patient care. This position is also responsible for providing pre-procedure care and post-procedure care, to include patient discharge teaching/planning and physical discharge of patients from the unit. This position plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care for one or more patients on the unit. Other departmental duties as assigned, such as: ordering supplies/maintaining inventory, providing appropriate information towards future needs and actively supports process improvement within the Cardiology Department. The RN maintains an active marketing profile for the facility/physicians and maintains professional standards and seeks professional growth. The RN practices in accordance with organizational medical staff directives, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Cardiology Department and the Heart Hospital of Austin at Round Rock Medical Center.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of national patient safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures as required by both HCA and St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center. Obtain ACLS within the first 6 months of employment. Possess excellent verbal and written skills. Exhibit the ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain clinical competency as required for the unit of assignment. Possess a positive attitude towards health care team member and diverse patient populations. When on call, must be onsite, ready to work within 30 minutes of call. An ability to demonstrate proficiency under all environmental conditions related to changing patient needs, including patients with acute, chronic and complex disease processes. Must be able to work independently, complete tasks without supervision and demonstrate independence with decision-making and problem solving in job related activities. Exhibits regular, predictable attendance in accordance with departmental policies and be able to manage time demands effectively. Demonstrates flexibility to changing work environment or responsibilities and must be able to function in emergency situations. Exhibits professional and ethical conduct at all times and is courteous with patients, co-works, family members, physicians and the general public. Appropriately handles confidential information regarding patient records. Takes the initiative to set personal and patient related goals. Maintains a safe working environment. Able to use a broad variety of equipment and patient care appliances routinely to provide patient care. Must pass competency checklists for all responsibilities outlined by the departmental program/policy. Will participate and promote positive team interactions to ensure quality patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; 1 year Critical Care and/or Cath Lab experience
Preferred: 3-5 years Clinical Care experience and/or 1 year Cath Lab/Recovery experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:
Required: Licensed in the state of Texas as RN, AHA BLS at time of hire and ACLS within six months of hire
