The Assessment & Authorization (A&A) Engineer’s responsibilities include security system deployments, configuration, monitoring, reporting and assessment & authorization activities. This position will have a lead role in working with operations and development teams on remediation and mitigation of findings. The A&A Engineer’s primary role will be to lead A&A activities, provide support to planning, designing and implementing security controls which safeguard and monitor events for information systems, enterprise applications and data. In addition, s/he will:
Participate in and/or Lead national level A&A activities
Analyze, troubleshoot, and investigate security-related, information system anomalies based on security platform reporting, network traffic, log files, host-based and automated security alerts
Effectively navigate the LINUX operating system via the command line utility
Create security documentation for the use of National Level accreditation activities
Conduct and manage continuous monitoring activities to validate network configuration post accreditation and report/correct findings
Author policies and procedures based on customer security standards and specific community requirements
Perform detailed, in depth Linux command line audit analysis as required
Maintain, configure, and analyze network and host-based security platforms
Conduct vulnerability scanning and analysis of systems and tools
Verify file and system integrity and software
Monitor firewall and network access controls lists
Monitor web and E-mail proxy and filtering systems
Evaluate systems using vulnerability scanners and manual techniques to verify system security settings and configurations
Provide reoccurring reports for network and host-based security solutions
Participate in continuous improvement processes
Maintain and update relevant system and process documentation and develop ad-hoc reports as needed
Assist in the development of security tools, trials, evaluations, and security operation procedures and processes
Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with all team members
Provide off-hours support on an infrequent, but as needed basis
Successfully manage time and technical responsibilities, set accurate expectations and meet deliverable deadlines while working in a team and information sharing environment
Conduct briefings and provide metrics as required by executive management
Prepare presentations and provide a level of technical detail as required
Review, analyze, investigate cross domain audits
Use command-line level activities to configure, troubleshoot, analyze and navigate system level actions
Assign access level and/or privileges based on user’s need to know
Enforce Enterprise level established security policies
Validate Cross Domain profiles against site security levels of processing
Develop Cross Domain security policies and procedures
Create Insider Threat reports showing statistical privileged use data
Generate incident reporting documentation
Bachelor's in Information Security, Computer Science, or related field and 7 years of demonstrated results or equivalent experience. Advanced degree recommended.
The successful Assessment & Authorization Engineer must have:
Hands on experience with command line UNIX/LINUX security audits
Experience working with DoD classified IT system security configuration and processes is highly desirable
Current CISSP certification or other DoD 8570.1 IAM-III certification
Working technical knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and Windows operating systems commands and utilities
Be well versed in IT government security accreditations and certification IAW ICD 503, NISPOM, NIST, DIACAP, RMF and other approved government IT security standards, policies and directives
Extensive hands on test experience with UNIX/LINUX within a lab environment
Strong experience with documenting test environments, requirements, results and POAM resolution.
This position requires a TS/SCI clearance. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Candidates must be able to travel up to 25% of the time
Applicants must meet DoD 8570.1 certification requirements for IAM-III. CISSP certification is preferred.
