South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) at , a subsidiary of BioBridge Global, is a not-for-profit community blood center specializing in a variety of services to include providing blood, plasma, platelets and other blood components to numerous hospitals in 43 South Texas counties. DEPARTMENT: Donor Services

JOB TITLE: Technician II

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for providing safe transportation of staff and operational supplies within the service area as assigned. Responsible for maintaining adequate mobile supplies and monitoring the safety of the vehicle. Responsible for performing medical evaluation of donors, determining donor eligibility, collecting safe and quality blood products, and monitoring the safety of the donors.



High School Graduate or equivalent

Certified Medical Assistant preferred

Experience :

Medical background preferred

Computer skills preferred

Must be at least 21 years old with good driving record

Three years driving experience required


Texas Operators Driver's License

Must obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) as a prerequisite to drive buses

Must obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation medical card


Knowledge: Must acquire and maintain a working knowledge of and perform within the guidelines of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and organizational policies. Must recognize and implement current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) in all assigned tasks. Must acquire and maintain a working knowledge of basic medical terminology and donor processing criteria.

Skills: Must be capable of operating motor vehicles in all types of weather conditions. Must demonstrate competency in performing donor registration, screening, phlebotomy, and monitoring donor safety. Must demonstrate competency in determining donor eligibility. Must implement concurrent documentation for all required donation data.

Abilities: Must be professional, organized, detail oriented, communicative, and have the ability to greet the public in a friendly and courteous manner. Must be a team player. Must keep all donor information confidential. Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.


Essential Functions:

  1. Commit to and abide by the character of BioBridge Global’s Core Values of Respect, Integrity and Excellence (RIE).

  2. Safely transport mobile staff and supplies to blood drives.

  3. Follow all traffic laws and safety policies/procedures.

  4. Ensure adequate mobile supplies and required equipment have been loaded on the designated vehicle.

  5. Unload, set up, take down, and reload mobile equipment and supplies at designated mobile drive.

  6. Perform all tasks and procedures in accordance with applicable SOP and policies.

  7. Perform donor registration and evaluate eligibility.

  8. Conduct comprehensive medical history interview.

  9. Perform medical screening procedures (blood pressures, pulse, temperature, and hemoglobin determination).

  10. Perform phlebotomy procedure.

  11. Ensure all records are legible, accurate, and complete.

  12. Maintain good working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

  13. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Nonessential Functions:

  1. Perform minor vehicle maintenance

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Will drive, sit, stand, walk, and bend during working hours. Requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to drive on behalf of the organization.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in well lighted, air-conditioned and heated vehicle or office environments, but may work in confined spaces and non-climate controlled conditions such as mobile sites. Will also work in all outdoor weather conditions. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to a full service blood and tissue center. May be exposed to electrical and chemical hazards and other conditions common to an office environment. Occasional out of town and overnight stays required. May be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend. Ability to use personal motor vehicle for company business required.


Works variable hours and variable days. Possibility for overnight travel up to 4 nights.

CDL training provided if needed.
