SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment Costume Tech I-III in San Antonio, Texas

Primary Purpose: To maintain all show and special event costuming as well as costumed character repair & maintenance. This position also cross trains on all dresser responsibilities and fulfills this role on an as needed basis.

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must have prior technical training and/or experience in a specific theatrical discipline( i.e., stage hand, dresser, run crew)
  • Must be able to pass a practical sewing test at Costume Tech III level at time of contingent offer
  • Must have basic knowledge of costumed characters including repair & maintenance of control mechanisms & fur
  • Must have basic knowledge of wardrobe run crew, minor costume repair & maintenance and basic make-up techniques
  • Must have basic craftwork experience, gluing & painting of fabrics & accessories; hand-sewing & machine sewing required
  • Must possess a good understanding of basic tools related to the costumes industry, including sewing machines
  • Must have a working knowledge of the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment surrounding quick changes and be able to respond to immediate needs during a public performance or special event
  • Must have the ability to work both as part of a team, communicating and resourcing with internal and external departmental ambassadors
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekdays, weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time in extreme weather
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Must be able to obtain a SWSA driver’s license for on/off site pick-up and delivery
  • Consistently practices safe work habits including, but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment, lifting and reporting of unsafe situations
  • Must be willing to comply with and ensure ambassadors comply with all SEA grooming guidelines and employment standards.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all legal, company and department training requirements to include but not limited to passing required tests and certifications within established timelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Costume Shop with deployment of all show costumes
  • Perform assigned dresser track as it relates to a show and/or special events when scheduled
  • Complete daily inspection, maintenance and repairs of show costuming, equipment and hardware
  • Assist with daily laundry duties as determined by the Costume Shop Supervisor
  • Complete daily costumed character maintenance, disassembly and repair of control mechanisms as well as fur and feet repair
  • Work with the cast, crew and stage management to maintain safety and integrity of shows, surrounding work spaces venues and dressing rooms
  • Transports costumes to and from show venues as needed
  • Oversee safety as it pertains to SEA best practices and all other relevant industry guidelines
