Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Description of Job Duties

Provides leadership and management for the Access Services department at the John Peace Library and the Applied Engineering and Technology Library.

Provides input into the strategic and operational planning processes and ensures that departmental goals further the mission of the library.

Responsible for access services policies and procedures across the libraries, connecting users with library resources when and where they are needed.

Typical Duties:

Ensures the access services operations are functional for all UTSA libraries.

Coordinates access services operations with the Downtown Campus Library.

Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates staff.

Provides staff development opportunities.

Maintains a productive learning environment and comprehensive training program that produces responsible, knowledgeable, and helpful employees.

Assures the John Peace Library and AET libraries maintain scheduled hours.

Maintains expert knowledge of the circulation and reserves modules of the Libraries’ integrated library system.

Investigates, develops, and implements 21st century access services, policies and procedures for circulation, print and electronic reserves, and technology lending.

Promotes excellent customer service by providing assistance to library users, resolving problems, and responding to faculty, staff, and student requests related to access services.

Provides expert knowledge of circulation policies during implementation of an integrated library system.

Ensures building safety and security in round-the-clock operations with the Library Facilities manager and the University Police Department

Enforces UTSA and Libraries’ policies to provide a productive learning environment in the Libraries.

Compiles, monitors, and analyzes use statistics. Prepares reports, monitors trends, assesses services, and recommends emerging technologies.

Collaborates with other managers and staff to plan and implement policies, programs and services that meet student and faculty needs.

Maintains current awareness of best practices, techniques, and new technologies related to access services.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Collects and maintains statistical data related to access services and building use.

Provides reports and analyses to support library decision-making.

Assesses patron needs and service outcomes.

Develops budget requests.

Conducts special projects.

Serves on library and university committees and task forces, including the Library Management Team.

Attends appropriate conferences and training sessions in area of specialization.

May represent UTSA at local, regional and national meetings.
