Master’s degree in Library or Information Science. ALA-accredited MLS; two (2) to four (4) years of professional library experience with increasingly responsible work assignments; ability to multitask and manage detail; strong oral and written communication skills; strong critical thinking skills.
Serves as liaison to the School of Dentistry, working with faculty to plan and develop curriculum-integrated content, providing a single point of contact for library services, and increasing awareness of library resources. Promotes use of evidence-based-practice health information, conducts database searches, participates in systematic reviews, and provides reference services and customized instruction. Additional or special duties as assigned. This position reports to the Associate Director of Briscoe Library.
Demonstrated experience in a health science library, conducting evidence-based-practice and systematic review searches, providing reference and instruction, developing and teaching classes on use of information resources. Familiarity with the research process and funding policies of federal agencies. Evidence of creativity and flexibility; ability to work collaboratively in a team and service-oriented environment; demonstrated experience utilizing social media applications and innovative communication technologies; computer literacy, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software; Internet/Web experience such as searching and quality filtering of resources; and a commitment to personal continuing education and involvement in the profession.
Serves as liaison to the School of Dentistry. Works collaboratively with faculty to plan and develop curriculum-integrated instructional content and resources to support student success. Assesses library needs of School of Dentistry students and faculty, increases awareness of library electronic resources, customizes library services, provides enhanced information management services and resources, and provides a single point of contact for these services. Creates instructional materials in multiple formats (videos, online tutorials, guides, etc.) for use by dentistry students, faculty, and staff. Serves as a consultant for the enhancement of the library collection of dentistry-related materials. Collaborates with School of Dentistry researchers on systematic reviews. Provides advocacy on public access policies of federal funding agencies.

Promotes use of evidence-based-practice health information. Provides service to library users by responding to directional, ready reference, informational and in-depth requests for information on specific topics. Assists library users in developing search strategies and locating specific print and online information. Assists users with interlibrary loan requests and bibliographic verifications in print and electronic sources. Refers users to other libraries and/or agencies as appropriate. Performs extensive and exhaustive searches of medical literature to address research questions and issues related to patient care using PubMed, Ovid, CINAHL, Scopus, and other databases

Participates in the Library’s orientation and instruction programs and provides consultations on the use of library materials, including electronic sources (Library Catalog, Ovid, PubMed, CINAHL, Evidence-Based Practice, Internet sites), reference materials, and using citation management software and other emerging technologies. Responsible for keeping current with changes in instructional trends and technologies

Participates in planning activities for the Library. Serves on library, School of Dentistry, and campus committees as appropriate. Contributes to the profession and represents the UT Health Science Center Libraries in the academic, scholarly, and professional community. Completes additional or special duties as assigned
