Southwest Research Institute MANAGER - R&D - MEDICINAL AND PROCESS CHEMISTRY in San Antonio, Texas
Manage the professional development and growth of the Medicinal and Process Chemistry Section staff by coordinating advanced training, career development, goal planning and performance reviews; handle marketing and business development of pharmaceutical business at SwRI; handle proposal development, project execution and management.
Requires a MS or PhD degree in Organic Chemistry with at least a 3.0 GPA and 5 years of related experience. Emphasis on synthesis and medicinal chemistry is preferred. PhD is preferred however years of experience doing early stage pharmaceutical development may be considered as substitute. Must have pharmaceutical contract development and scale-up work in nonacademic setting experience; must have direct experience with budgeting and planning and project execution working with a team of Chemists and Engineers, developing new synthesis and transitioning to cGMP pilot plants; must understand gates and decision points of drug development; working knowledge of medicinal chemistry concepts and synthetic strategies is required; working knowledge of drug discovery stages and criteria for compound advancement is required; must have an understanding of key decision gates during preclinical and early clinical drug development; must have working knowledge of cGMP and ICH guidance and their weight at stages of development; must have well balanced and developed personnel skills; must be able to make seasoned, mature judgment to develop and expand staffing and markets while maintaining capital and related business areas; must understand medicinal chemistry sufficiently to recommend solutions to rapid metabolism, CNS and oral absorption and design libraries with their synthetic route; must understand gates and decision points of drug discovery; must have excellent interpersonal skills and experience managing and organizing project teams; must have had experience writing proposals for funding. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
