South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) at , a subsidiary of BioBridge Global, is a not-for-profit community blood center specializing in a variety of services to include providing blood, plasma, platelets and other blood components to numerous hospitals in 43 South Texas counties. STBTC is a community partner focused on enhancing health care through innovation and stewardship.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for medical evaluation, acceptability, phlebotomy, and care of donors within our service area.


Education: High School Graduate or equivalent

One year medical education preferred

Experience: Medical background preferred

Certification/License: Not Applicable


Knowledge: Must acquire knowledge of and perform within the guidelines of all standard operating policies and procedures. Must acquire a working knowledge basic medical terminology.

Skills: Legible writing required. Must be capable of performing screening, phlebotomy, donor care and data entry procedures.

Abilities: Must be professional, communicative, and have the ability to greet the public in a friendly and courteous manner. Must be able to keep all information confidential. Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.


Essential Functions:

  1. Greet donors in a pleasing, professional manner.

  2. Perform data entry and evaluate eligibility.

  3. Conduct comprehensive medical history interview.

  4. Perform medical screening procedures (blood pressures, pulse, temperature, HGB, HCT and finger stick).

  5. Determine donor eligibility.

  6. Perform phlebotomy procedures.

  7. Ensure all necessary records are legible, accurate and complete.

  8. Assist in the unloading, setting up, taking down and reloading of mobile equipment.

  9. Assist in the stocking, opening and closing of in bank drawing area.

  10. Report to supervisor issues relating to donors, donor groups, or departmental operations.

  11. Maintain good working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

  12. May perform other tasks as assigned.

Nonessential Functions:

  1. Perform quality control function.

  2. May perform automated blood collection procedures.

  3. May perform data entry for autologous and directed registration. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Will sit, stand, walk, climb and bend during working hours. Requires to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in well lighted, air-conditioned and heated areas, but may work in confined spaces and non-climate controlled conditions such as mobile sites. Exposed to body fluids, blood borne pathogens, electrical and chemical hazards. Occasional out of town and overnight stays required. May be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend.
