Job Description

The Division of Neurobehavioral Research in the Department of Psychiatry is looking for a motivated individual to join our growing outpatient addictions treatment team. The position of Research Area Specialist-Intermediate will serve as a vital member of our clinic team, handling overall and day-to-day grant management of a highly innovative program that will enhance caregiver engagement in treatment of at-risk youth via evidence based incentive programs. The candidate will work closely with community providers by engaging in off-site community outreach and recruitment. Recruitment sources will include community providers at various non-profit organizations and the Bexar county justice system. Off-site work will include recruitment, consent and interview of a wide variety of individuals including but not limited to: parents and adolescents of at-risk families/families in crisis, juvenile justice system judges, attorneys and court officers, and community providers. Candidate will be expected to work closely with identified populations and faculty to accomplish recruitment and continued engagement goals, as well as, supervise at least one research assistant. Other responsibilities will include management of large data sets including supervision of data collection, data verification, creation of data management systems, creation and management of study protocols and procedures, analysis of data and preparation of results in the form of grant progress reports and publications.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a social science. Previous experience working with the criminal justice system. Previous experience working with at-risk adolescents and families.

Day to day clinic activities to include but not limited to: direct recruitment of clients via phone and in person interview; completing assessments prior to enrollment which involves obtaining consent for treatment, and administering clinical interviews; obtaining and testing biological specimens for drugs of abuse; assessing patterns of substance use; maintaining clinic calendar which involves confirmation calls and rescheduling as needed.
