Provides process safety engineering expertise and support to Operations’ business units to improve process safety performance. Develops and maintains technical standards and effective solutions to mitigate risk. Conducts process safety engineering studies.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*
Works with corporate safety and refining technical groups to develop goals, standards, policies, work practices and expectations regarding corporate process safety management (PSM) program. Develops and implements risk assessment methodologies and risk quantification tools such as, but not limited to, LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) to meet regulatory standards.
Provides engineering support and technical guidance/assistance to refineries in areas such as, but not limited to, facility siting modeling, portable building placement, PHA (process hazard analysis), MOC (management of change).
Plans, organizes, facilitates and leads risk assessment workshops utilizing analytical tools such as FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis), HAZIDs/HAZOPs, Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRAs).
Mentors site personnel transferring technical knowledge through project reviews, papers and technical presentations. Develops and delivers training on process safety management and related topics. Advises on interpretation and application of internal and external standards.
Stewards risk reduction efforts. Drives improvement and consistency in application of PSM standards throughout all sites. Conducts compliance audits with focus on facilitating sites’ development and completion of risk assessments in compliance with corporate and regulatory standards. Makes recommendations to improve/enhance plants’ operational excellence.
Analyzes process safety data/incident trends integrating analytical approaches with refining subject matter experts. Develops reports and communicates results.
Establishes and maintains process safety management system to support and ensure standards are consistently followed at facility level.
• Minimum undergraduate engineering degree required.
• Minimum 10 years engineering experience in process safety management, risk management, process hazard analysis (PHA)/layers of protection analysis (LOPA) in refining or petrochemical industries required.
