Rackspace Storage Engineer - 2nd Shift in San Antonio, Texas
Overview & Responsibilities
Rackspace is seeking a SAN Storage Engineer I to join our team in our San Antonio, TX global headquarters.
The SAN Engineer is responsible for SAN infrastructure tasks that include: Provisioning SAN on Clariion, VMAX, VNX-block, and VNX-Unified storage arrays and Brocade workgroup and Director Class switches, in shared and dedicated SAN environments.
Troubleshooting hardware and connectivity issues, hardware and software upgrades for the Storage arrays and Fabric environments as well as SAN attached servers.
Proactive improvements and maintenances to SAN environments, resolving day-to-day issues, audits, improving processes and procedures, mentoring support teams and SAN administrators.
Keeps informed of emerging technologies.
Also responsible for the prioritization and management of the ticket queue, handle multiple projects involving various departments, and tasks assigned.
The SAN engineer will be required to participate in projects and document all changes to the environment.
Responsible for assisting the team with training new hires and getting them acclimated to the SAN environment and Rackspace processes at the SAN Engineer level I.
Due to the 24X7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Be on an on-call rotation with teammates to cover gaps in coverage.
Works appropriate moderate level infrastructure tasks and tickets.
Defines, schedules, and implements infrastructure maintenances.
Develops standards and policies for respective technology domain.
Works cross-functionally with various departments daily.
Helps develop and implement standards and finds areas of opportunity for automation and efficiencies for day to day operations.
Monitors and maintains all SAN infrastructures.
Works with vendors to resolve escalated hardware and software issues.
Capacity planning and performance analysis of infrastructure.
Ensures completeness and compatibility of the technical infrastructure to support system stability and performance.
Keeps well informed of new technology.
Design small complex shared SAN configurations.
Solid server operating systems knowledge (Windows and Linux).
Solid network administration skills, excellent knowledge in hardware equipment, and basic database knowledge.
Strong technical knowledge in technology troubleshooting methodologies, design, and implementation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to resolve problems in a timely manner, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Basic knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting, testing, and performance tuning in SAN platforms.
Basic knowledge of SAN best practices for current VMware, Windows and Linux operation systems, Files systems, SQL, MySQL, Oracle, and Exchange.
Strong working knowledge of Fibre Channel SAN concepts and technologies.
Hands on experience with EMC Clariion CX3, Clariion CX4, VMAX (1 st gen and 2 nd gen), VNX1 and VNX 2 block and unified Storage Arrays and Brocade Switches preferred.
HS Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Requires 4 years of information systems experience and system administration experience indicating an intermediate understanding of Storage technology.
Minimum 3 years SAN and Fibre Channel switch experience and 3 years experience in a customer service oriented position.
Must exhibit a fanatical customer service attitude.
Demonstrated ability to consistently provide FANATICAL support.
