JOB TITLE: Tissue Technician I
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
WORKING SCHEDULE : Variable days and hours
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible for activities related to the aseptic processing of human tissue, maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment, and proper documentation of all activities. Must be able to operate all major and minor processing equipment, and maintain processing supplies and equipment inventory. Participate in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the tissue processing and distribution.
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent
Experience: Two years in operating room/laboratory techniques or tissue banking experience preferred
Must be at least 21 years old with good driving record
Three years driving experience required
Certification/License: Operating Room Technician or
Certified Tissue Bank Specialist preferred
Texas Operator’s Drivers License
Knowledge: Must have a working knowledge of sterile surgical procedures, tissue dissection procedures, operating room sterile techniques, instruments and equipment sterilization techniques or laboratory techniques. Must maintain a knowledge of and perform within the guidelines of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.
Skills: Must have strong manual dexterity and technical abilities in the use of surgical equipment. Must be able to assists in the continuing and expanding areas of the tissue center. Must be capable of operating motor vehicles in all types of weather conditions.
Abilities: Must be professional, self-motivated, innovative, creative, assertive, organized, communicative, and have the ability to work in a team environment and relate well to others. Must be able to perform and evaluate processing of tissues. Must keep all information confidential. Must be neat in appearance and well groomed.

Successfully complete the training program in processing.
Assist in the developing of the tissue processing procedures according to the AATB, FDA, and cGMP standards.
Utilize the aseptic techniques for processing of tissue.
Perform instruments and supplies sterilization procedures according to sterilization guidelines.
Maintain processing instruments, supplies and equipment inventory, and ensure an adequate supply.
Operate processing equipment and maintain maintenance and monitoring records such as: freezer, freeze dried and room temperature readings.
Perform tissue processing room disinfection procedures according to Clean Room and organizational guidelines.
Perform processing, packaging and labeling of the tissues according to procedures AATB and organizational standards.
Maintain complete and accurate records of all steps in the tissue product manufacturing process to assure product documentation and traceability.
Perform all necessary quality control procedures and maintain complete records of results.
Follow proper safety procedures.
May perform other tasks as assigned.
- Run departmental errands as directed.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Will sit, stand, walk and bend during working hours. Requires to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to drive on behalf of the organization.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a well lighted, air conditioned and heated office. May be exposed to body fluids, blood borne pathogens, electrical and chemical hazards. Travel when necessary to hospitals and other facilities. Must be willing to work irregular hours. Will work extended hours during the tissue processing. May be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend to include being on-call. Ability to use personal motor vehicle for company business required.
