Dow Chemical Laboratory Analyst in Seadrift, Texas

The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity for aLaboratory AnalystinSeadrift, Texas.

The Lab Analyst rotates through different Shift Analyst positions.

This position primarily exists to perform basic routine analyses, and calibration and maintenance of analytical systems. Analytical data is provided in order to produce and release products.


  • Follow Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and Operating Discipline / ODMS (Operating Discipline Management System) procedures and practices.

  • Perform basic calibration and maintenance of analytical systems.

  • Perform basic routine analyses.

  • Using existing tools, evaluate validity of data, apply basic statistics, compare to specified limits and take appropriate action.

  • Monitor analytical systems, identify problems, conduct first-line troubleshooting and escalate as appropriate.

  • Document, communicate and archive results.

  • Support, as appropriate, non-routine analytical requests.

  • Melt flow properties (MI, density) analyses of various polyethylene products.

  • Analyses of additives contained in various polyethylene products. (XRF, FTIR, GC/Headspace, UV, etc.)

  • Physical properties testing of various polyethylene products. (tape, film appearance rating, bottle weight, gels, etc.)

  • Elemental analyses of catalyst. (XRF and wet chemical)

  • Hydrocarbon content of catalyst (GC, volatiles)

  • Particle size measurements of catalyst.

  • Instrument calibrations, solution preparations and laboratory equipment and infrastructure maintenance.

  • Housekeeping and sample retention.

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to read and write in English.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate well, verbally and in writing, and have strong reading comprehension and listening skills.

  • Strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.

  • A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.

  • Able to work within an empowered team environment.

  • Have a high regard for personal safety and the safety of others.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous lab experience.

  • Previous experience working in a chemical manufacturing plant.

  • Previous experience working in a Dow lab.


  • High School Diploma or GED AND one of the following:

o 8 hours of college chemistry

o Industrial Lab experience
