DutiesMajor Duties

Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid Leader, PD#01766A.

Work Schedule: Sunday through Saturday, 7:00am to 3:45pm.

Major Duties:

The incumbent of this position is a Housekeeping Aide who additionally regularly serves as a team leader for three to twelve WG-3566-01 and WG-3566-02 Housekeeping Aides working individually or in groups. The tour of duty will vary, depending upon the requirements of the Housekeeping Section, Environmental Management Section. Tours may include day shift, evening shift, weekends, or a combination thereof. Incumbent may be required to provide training to patients involved in the Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) Program. This leader position will have the knowledge of and be able to perform all duties as outlined in the Housekeeping Aid WG-01 and WG-02 position descriptions, which includes performing as a Housekeeping Aide in areas where significant aseptic practices are required. Incumbent is responsible for performing a full range of cleaning and disinfecting duties. Incumbent shall clean all areas consisting of regular cleaning, terminal cleaning and disinfecting. Other areas/responsibilities that require thorough cleaning consist of offices, restrooms, showers, and other areas by dusting, mopping, stripping and waxing of floors, scrubbing floors using scrub machines, utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE). Incumbent may be required to work rotational shift depending on workload. Incumbent works as a member or a team to ensure that areas and connecting areas are maintained at the highest levels of sanitation through proper use of aseptic techniques and practices. Incumbent disinfects floors, walls, ceilings, corners, doors, kick plates, baseboards, equipment, and other surfaces to insure that areas are aseptically clean and pleasing. Incumbent uses proper disinfectants to disinfect areas where body wastes (bloody fluid, urine, bile, liquid feces, etc.) are processed. All chemicals will be used in accordance with label directions and disposed of in the approved manner.

This position may be eligible for an Environmental Differential Pay.

This is a BARGAINING UNIT position.

Qualifications And EvaluationQualifications

Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces such as light fixtures, venetian blinds, and counter-tops; and cleaning restroom facilities including toilets, baths, and sinks.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C ( ).

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position requires performance of work which involves light physical effort, such as that involved in using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting and emptying waste baskets; frequently pushing carts loaded with waste; and lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds. Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, i.e., heavy industrial vacuum cleaners, heavy duty floor scrubbers and buffers, couches, beds, etc., and lifting, carrying and/or moving items weighing up to 40-50 pounds. Occasionally pushes heavy loads in wheeled carts weighing up to 700 pounds, using appropriate pushing techniques.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations. Will be exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc., as well as subject to cuts and bruises. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and disagreeable odors, and is frequently exposed to organic material which may be contaminated and/or infectious and require special handling. Temperatures will vary when moving from one assignment to another in different buildings that are separated by moderate distances, with paths of egress modified at different points in time due to construction activities. Environmental health and safety consciousness are important considerations in the work place to avoid accidents, injuries to people and damage to property. Thus, the incumbent must consistently be aware of possible or potential hazards and so instruct the individuals of the group on safety practices.
