Position Summary Information

Job Summary

Participates in activities involving the projection of the university’s image to the public and prospective students; assists with student transition into the University; helps maintain the university’s awareness of changing characteristics of students; and secures students who can best profit from the educational opportunities offered by the university by providing advanced professional knowledge regarding the institutional student admission process.

Required Education and Experience

Minimum Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to recognize and analyze problems, evaluate solutions, and make recommendations.

Knowledge of college entrance exams and instruments which assist students in the areas of academic and career choices, as well as knowledge of undergraduate admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and academic and student services is required.

Strong computer skills and knowledge required to utilize computer generated reports and maintain related databases.

Must possess skills in communicating effectively with individuals and with groups of people of varying age levels and career positions.

Demonstrate experience in providing academic advising to prospective and returning students, individually or in groups, about college policies, programs of study, and degree options.

Must be able to load, transport, and set up display materials and lift approximately 50 pounds.

Must have valid driver’s license in order to drive to various recruitment functions.

Preferred Education and Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in working with and/or supervising students in a college or university setting.

Working knowledge of Student Information Systems (Banner).

One (1) year experience in Undergraduate Admissions, plus knowledge of degree plans, transfer articulation matters, and Financial Aid programs.

Familiarity with A&M-Texarkana campus, historical landmarks, and points of interest in the Texarkana area.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

  1. Present information in both group and individual settings for potential students on topics of academics, admission process, financial aid and scholarship programs, and career issues by answering questions regarding the University’s policies on academic programs and related student services.

  2. Conduct tours to include the location of academic departments, student services, and housing; coordinate campus visits for prospective students and parents to demonstrate the outstanding features of A&M-Texarkana.

  3. Design, organize and facilitate recruitment programs and marketing strategies by geographical territory for the purpose of targeting public schools, community colleges, transfer students, as well as minority and adult students for enrollment management.

  4. Assist with orientation sessions, special events, and student activities as needed.

  5. Advise students by assessing student needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences in order to guide students in the design and implementation of a successful academic program. Also, counsel students by providing information about alternatives and possible consequences of academic decisions.

  6. Coordinate with high school and community college officials via mail, phone, and email in scheduling and conducting recruitment visits and special campus events to apprise students of admissibility, required documents to complete admission process, upcoming events, academic programs/specific degree requirements, housing, and all that A&M Texarkana has to offer.

  7. Establish and maintain positive rapport by serving as a primary contact person to community organizations, local businesses, public school systems, students/parents, counselors, and other entities with the idea of promoting A&M Texarkana by utilizing exceptional customer service practices.

  8. Maintain and organize recruitment and retention data for preparation of various reports in order to aid in generating prospects, applicants, and enrollees; plus, maintain and update (with the support of the IE Department) focus reports and batch jobs with assigned VM account.

  9. Maintain knowledge of current THEA guidelines to correctly interpret and inform students regarding THEA requirements.

  10. Represent A&M-Texarkana at all recruitment functions including college day programs at various junior high and high schools, community colleges, as well as business and industrial organizations, both day and night as needed.

  11. Serve as liaison between A&M-Texarkana and its primary feeder campuses.

  12. Assist in creating and/or updating Recruitment Office/Admission website to include scholarship opportunities, enrollment information, and upcoming events designed to showcase the University.

  13. Ability to manage multiple tasks.
