Position Summary Information

Job Summary

Monitoring, installation, and troubleshooting of scientific software on Linux, MSwindows, OS and X installations and maintenance

Major/Essential Duties of Job

Troubleshoot scientific software problems on linux, MSwindows, OS, and X installations. Install scientific software. Resolve other problems as needed. Troubleshoot web-based job submission and queueing system. Set up new computers, some including virtual machines, and integrate with existing systems. Supervise disk space for large quantities of changing data. Monitor system status and security. Maintain documentation for use of the scientific software. Set up personal laptops for dual boot with linux, and install scientific software. as time is available. Implement system management improvements.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of experience may substitute for one year of education. Two years of systems administration experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s of higher in science, especially biochemistry or chemistry related. Six years of experience and at least three years of unix system administration experience.

Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment. Must have initiative. Must be able to communicate and explain well.
