To perform routine technical task that support hospital operations through materials management tasks, including receiving, decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage of sterile instruments and supplies used in the hospital.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives, decontaminates, cleans, examines and sterilizes surgical items. Collects and receives dirty trays, equipment, and instruments. Decontaminates using appropriate processes as per policy. Assemble trays according to instrument lists. No trays are sterilized if incomplete. Prepares trays for sterilization including wrapping, insertion of proper indicators, documentation and labeling as per policy. Sterilizes trays and instruments in appropriate vessel according to manufacture instructions. Monitors sterilizer cycle to ensure that all parameters are met and properly documents the results in the sterilizer logbook. Delivers finished product to appropriate departments. Able to step up in Coordinator's role in absence of Coordinator. Follows procedures to ensure adherence to sterilization requirements, standards of conduct, cleanliness, technical accuracy, and safety regulations. Operates all sterilizers using proper safety techniques as per manufactures policy and procedures. Performs all necessary dart and biological test. Verifies that all biological test results are within requirements and logs results according to policy. Performs product recall in event of positive biological test results. Notifies all departments of recall. Ensures that sterilizers are repaired and operating properly before returning item to service. Maintains inventories of sterile and non-sterile supplies for continued operation of the unit. Inspects Sterile packages/trays for event related sterility. Maintains stock levels of supplies and equipment. Follows preventative maintenance programs in the Sterile Processing Department reports defective material or equipment and takes appropriate action to repair or replace items.
One year as Sterile Processing Technician
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Special Qualifications: Able to use sterile processing equipment Basic understanding of aseptic technique Knowledge of patient care trays, instruments, and carts Familiar with biological processing
