To be responsible and accountable for directing and facilitating the flow of patient care activities of a unit on an assigned shift.

E1. Supports and assists with the development and actualization of the unit(s)' goals (strategic plan).

E2. Coordinates and directs the unit(s)' patient care operations for an assigned shift.

E3. Manages personnel effectively, and analyzes workload and skill requirements to meet patients' needs for an assigned shift.

E4. Practices and promotes cost containment for unit(s) and patients.

E5. Practices and promotes patient/family advocacy and assists with the maintenance of ethical practice.

E6. Practices and promotes positive peer and guest relations.

E7. Participates in and promotes quality improvement at the unit level.

E8. Demonstrates a high level of productivity and dependability.

E9. Assists with staff education and unit projects as appropriate.

E10. Adheres to and complies with HCA Code of Conduct as part of our Ethics and Compliance program. Attends annual training sessions.

E11. Ensures that the department personnel follow Hospital and Corporate policies and procedures, safety and infection control practices.

E12. Assures that the department follows guidelines for varies accrediting agencies such as state and federal regulatory agencies and TJC requirements by attending all required in-services pertaining to such guidelines.

Experience: At least one year experience as a Staff RN for Med/Surg units and one year additional experience in the specialty units, i.e., ICU/CCU.

Education:Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Licensed as an RN in the State of Texas. Education requirements appropriate for meeting age-specific needs of the patients on the particular unit on which the Charge Nurse is assigned. Special Qualifications: 1. Medication test score of 80% or better. 2. Participation in Charge Nurse Workshop.
3. Participation in EKG Rhythm Recognition Workshop or exemption by passing posttest with a grade of >80%.


Current BLS and ACLS Assists with Special Supply inventory and ordering as needed Assists with PLUS labor management and documentation as needed Assists with daily/shift audits of charts.
