The US Oncology Network seeks to identify an experienced pharmacist for the Senior Director, Pharmacy Strategic Programs to support the work of medical oncologists, hematologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons and advanced practice providers in affiliated practices. The Network is transforming its care delivery models consistent with Value Based Care and to participate in the Oncology Care Model. We seek an experienced clinical professional with oncology, operations, and analytical experience to identify and execute on a variety of operational and strategic initiatives that optimize the support of The Network practices with two primary goals: 1) strengthening the operational and financial performances of the practices as a result of clinical and outcomes analyses in support of patient care delivery 2) developing an operations structure for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Program that involves multiple sub-committees involved in therapeutic interchange and substitution, outcomes and publications, and care delivery analyses of importance to Network providers The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively, strategically, and systematically in analysis, development, and execution of initiatives and programs designed to improve operational and financial performance in complex healthcare settings ideally with specific experience in community oncology office settings or multi-disciplinary cancer delivery systems. This pharmacist will work under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment and perform advanced (senior-level) managerial consultative and technical work related largely to prescription drugs. Competitive candidates will have experience in working successfully with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers on a large scale (i.e. National) basis to identify, plan, and complete projects with significant impact to the organization. Additionally, the candidate should have strong communication skills with ease in working with both physicians and corporate executives as this role will include working productively in a matrixed environment collaborating with multiple business units within McKesson Specialty Health and McKesson Corporation including colleagues in managed care, clinical services, operations, finance, distribution, and manufacturer-facing businesses.
Strategic Development and Execution of the Pharmacy & Therapeutic Program for The US Oncology Network
In collaboration with the P&T physician leaders, assess the current program and develop a structure for the program that will support the key needs of US Oncology practices’ consistent with the needs of Value-Based Care, as it relates to therapeutic interchange and substitution, outcomes and publications, and other clinical care priorities within the scope of P&T
Lead the P&T (with the physician leaders), in a collaborative and inclusive culture across multiple functions within MSH, to include perspectives and expertise needed to accomplish initiatives within the P&T program
Identify clinical issues, define scope of projects, analyze data, and report on the findings in collaboration with the physicians on strategic priorities and initiatives important to US Oncology practices
Engage P&T physician , pharmacist, and other healthcare stakeholders within each US Oncology Network affiliated practice in order to facilitate communication and sharing of information that is useful to the practices’ with respect to care delivery, focused on value-based care
Operational Development and Implementation of Initiatives
Overseeing and conducting analysis of complex pharmaceutical policy issues; conducting analyses related to formularies, MAC lists, Preferred Drug List program, and Network pathways program (which helps ensure appropriate clinical use of medications in the out-patient setting). Also including analyses focused on the OCM and efforts to ensure knowledge from regimen selections are understood, communicated and are used to specifically drive improvements in program performance measures (related to the OCM redesign activity of continuous learning).
Define and implement realistic project management for initiatives that have been identified for each fiscal year
Be accountable and hold others accountable for the implementation of the various programs developed with documented expectations and measurements
Proactively interpreting managed care contracts and providing insights to maximize the value we are trying to achieve, Identifying and suggesting opportunities to deliver on those contracts as it relates to value-based care principles.
Become one of the MSH subject matter experts on the OCM
Leadership & Strategic Roles
Lead a team of pharmacists and analysts and work cross-functionally and collaboratively on the initiatives described above
Develop, retain, recruit and mentor team members
Educate senior leaders of McKesson Specialty Health on evolving trends in pharmaceuticals/therapeutics that have the potential to impact care delivery and work to maximize the likelihood that divisional priorities align with needed investments in this service line
Participate in meetings with various stakeholders including company meetings scheduled at ASCO with pharmaceutical and biotech companies
Participate in strategic planning related to company and practice priorities, as related to care delivery
Co-lead the P&T Committee and support all efforts of the Pathways Task Force
Foster relationships and engagement with Network providers and practice pharmacists
Participate in OCM Steering Committee as a committee member
8-10 years experience
At least 10 years of health care experience; preference is for experience as Pharmacist in community oncology, or related space
At least 5 years of experience with developing and implementing clinical and business models related to Pharmacy and Healthcare at national level
At least 5 years of managerial experience at the Manager or Senior Manager level in corporate healthcare industry setting
Post-doctorate pharmacy residency
This position requires a doctorate Degree in Pharmacy
Additional Knowledge & Skills
Oncology experience strongly preferred
Other specialty experience a plus
Experience working in a matrix organization
Experience managing national healthcare initiatives in a corporate environment.
Excellent verbal and written skills
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
Excellent computer skills including: MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, Outlook
Must be willing and able to travel at least 30-40% to fulfill the requirements of the job
Excellent people and project management skills
This is a full time position only
B.Pharm/PharmD; must be registered pharmacist in good standing with appropriate State Board of Pharmacy.
General Office Demands
This position will be located at McKesson Specialty Health headquarters office in The Woodlands, Texas or can be established remotely.
Travel could be as high as 40%of the time.
