Caterpillar Team Lead in Waco, Texas
The Team Lead is an enabling position within the Caterpillar Production System that is critical to the management of the process. Team Leads are working members of the team. The role of the team lead is to help team members be successful at meeting safety requirements, quality levels, velocity requirements and performance goals. Team Leads are responsible for a variety of work tasks/activities including, but not limited to:
Helping train new Team Members with on-the-job training
Filling in for absent Team Members, other Team Leads, or Section Managers
Helping resolve issues related to safety, quality, velocity and cost. This can range from material shortages to tool/equipment problems
Participating on continuous improvement teams
Collecting data and updating metric boards as needed
Conducting Performance Improvement Dialogues at the cell level
Helping create and update Standard Work
Monitoring the process to make sure that standard work is being followed
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Team Lead must understand the overall flow of the line and the technical aspects of the process and flow for features generated in area of responsibility
They must be capable of adjusting line staffing to meet flow requirements and supporting the section’s production plan
They translate the direction set by the Section Manager to task assignments for each Team Member in the given area to meet the section’s plan/requirements
Team Leads are both a practitioner and teacher of fundamental CPS principles and are committed to their successful implementation. Responsible for continually looking for and identifying WASRE
They are required to fill in for other Team Leads or Team Members as required for absenteeism, poor line flow, and quality and/or equipment issues to provide a continuous operation
They must be able to handle the pressure of production requirements while maintaining a positive working relationship with Team Members on the line
Team leads must be able to communicate effectively with all those in need of information, including Team Members in Management, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality groups, etc. They are required to report out on the area’s status relative to plan.
They bus identify quality, personnel, safety and production issues and work to resolve these issues. If the issues cannot be resolved, the Team Lead must bring them to the immediate attention of the section manager to minimize the given problem’s impact on their areal of responsibility and potentially the section as a whole
Team Leads are responsible for owning the metrics for the given area and are accountable for each operation‘s metric accuracy and timeliness of their reporting
They own the area’s current state Value Stream Map. They partner with the Section Manager in implementation of the changes needed to achieve the future state Value Stream Map.
They must have the ability to drive Rood Cause identification via data driven part/process troubleshooting within the assigned area. They should be able to review, collect and analyze component, process and machine data in order to determine root cause
They are responsible for generating and working Continuous Improvement ideas related to their assigned area
Team Leads must participate and/or lead Rapid Improvement Workshops for their assigned area of responsibility
They must continually monitor and audit People, Quality, Velocity and Cost metrics for each operation (cell level metrics) in their area of responsibility. This is accomplished via audits of the Team Member’s performance
They are responsible for assisting in the creation, training and implementation of Standard Work processes and documentation
They must participate or lead Process Improvement Dialogs in their area of responsibility
They must be able to communicate effectively with all those in need of information including Section Managers, Team members, Engineering and support groups as needed for the given area to meet performance requirements.
Performs daily Operator Performed Maintenance (OPM), Labor Reporting, In Process Validation (IPV), 5S Operations

The Team Lead is required to have the skill and knowledge needed to perform some of the jobs that the Team Members perform in the machining area. The importance of this requirement will vary by area and will become increasingly necessary in the skilled areas.
The Team Lead is also required to have proven leadership or facilitation skills.
Familiarity with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office software applications, and SAP is desired.
Must be able to work independently and, equally well, in a team environment.
Must have good organizational and problem solving skills.
The ideal candidate will also have excellent communication skills, and the ability to promote a team atmosphere.
Must be willing to attend all internal and external training as required.
Certification in 6 Sigma green belt training & a good knowledge of CPS is highly desirable.
Must follow all safety rules and work in a safe manner.
