Verizon Wireless Technology Development Engineer in Westlake, Texas


A key member of Verizon HQ Network Planning team that can lead in architecting and planning for the introduction and implementation of network architectures for new technologies. Candidate must have proven experience in technical leadership and thorough knowledge of end-to-end 4G Evolved Packet System. In-depth knowledge, understanding and significant practical experiences of the 4G-LTE network mobility is essential for this position. As a subject matter expert, provide technical leadership/direction both internally as well to equipment vendors. This role requires:

  • Researching, evaluating new technology plus associated features and be able to translate business objectives and strategies into viable/implementable network implementation plans

  • Ability to study relevant standards (3GPP, IETF, ETSI, etc.) specifications and use such documents to guide multivendor teams during creation or call flows or interface specification into practical and sound network implementation plans

  • Working closely with equipment vendor SMEs to develop feature requirements and implementation plans while working collaboratively with cross-functional internal teams. This will require the candidate to identify, specify, negotiate, and deploy software and hardware solutions, sometimes including creation and management of an RFP/RFI process and negotiation of contracts

  • Required to work diligently with other HQ Network Planning, MTCE, NNO, HQ Service Performance, Network Implementation, Product Technology and IT teams during network or service deployment and experiences working with these teams is highly desired

  • Develop planning, engineering and implementation guidelines, and provide direction for network elements/functions evolution. Firsthand knowledge of the existing network function local and geo-redundancy schemes a requisite for this position

  • Providing network architecture leadership for RAN and Core network elements/functions

  • Evaluating and developing requirements for next generation platform and architectures

  • Working with equipment suppliers in developing methods, tools, and features to enhance network capacity, performance, and capability

  • Participating in trials and evaluations of next generation platforms as needed

  • Ability to perform independent system analysis, design and plan implementation


  • Ability to lead vendor architects and developers and complete tasks with minimal guidance

  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related discipline) or equivalent experience.

  • Successful candidates should possess in-depth working knowledge of 4G-LTE/IMS network and outstanding inter-personal skills (ability to collaborate and influence others to problem-solve)

  • Working knowledge of the standards (3GPP, IEEE, IETF, GSMA, ETSI, etc.) specifications

  • Expert knowledge pertaining to wireless network, mobility principles and associated Evolved Packet System protocols

  • Experience in documenting Call Flows, Interface Specifications, Network Function Selection Procedures

  • Ability to create network function call models and performing network element capacity analysis to provide guidance to

  • Proficient understanding of Voice over LTE/4G network design, associated call flows and all the fundamental building blocks required to make VoLTE service robust

  • Experience and good grasp of error mapping across various Vz network interfaces and a solid understanding of the end-to-end dependencies as well as how errors are translated from one interface to another

  • Ability to examine network call traces and identify root causes for network errors

  • Experience in vendor management and coordination of multiple vendors to deploy services

  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly. Ability to perform independent system analysis, design and plan implementation, paying special attention to details and objectives

  • Strong engineering and innovative talents to foster technical creativity with Directors and senior management
