Cigna Chief Actuary - Cigna Supplemental Benefits in Austin, Texas

Reporting to the Business Finance Officer of Cigna Supplemental Benefits (CSB), the Chief Actuary will be responsible for all actuarial functions to achieve earnings and growth targets while protecting financial integrity. Cigna's Supplement Benefits business drives $1.3B in revenue and includes Medicare Supplemental coverage and supplemental health and life products to provide financial projection for individuals. This role will sit on the CSB leadership team and will plan a key role in further strengthening relationships across the Government Business Segments products lines.
Lead a team of actuaries, actuarial students, and financial analysts across four primary functions
CSB’s portfolio of products including Medicare Supplement and Supplemental Health and life products to drive profitable growth
Team is responsible for over 600 annual filings to support new product launches and revenue growth
Provide signoff for distribution compensation and strategy
Review opportunities for strategic partnerships with third parties to develop new products and enter new market
Oversees Appointed Actuary who signs off on regulatory opinions for a business with $800M of assets and liabilities related to the broad portfolio of products
Oversee implementation of multi-year FASB long-duration contract changes
Requires unique approaches to each type of liability including short term IBNR, active life reserves, and deferred acquisition costs
Provide financial forecasts based on to product claim experience, customer lapse, rates, and business process changes
Process Improvement & Analytics
Work across team to improve processes to create more efficiency for reserving, pricing, and experience studies
Dotted line oversight of CSB data and analytics teams to provide experience studies and make data a key driver of business decisions
Manage relationships and contracts with multiple third party consultants and contractors
Build and retain a high performing team; continuously look for opportunities to add, develop and upgrade talent
Support multi-year business strategy development and execution as part of the CSB leadership team
Increase engagement of CSB business across related Cigna business such as Medicare Advantage, Individual and Family plans, and Group Voluntary products
Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, or related field
Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
Fellow of the Society of Actuaries preferred but will consider Associate with requisite experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in actuarial leadership roles
Exceptionally strong leadership qualities.
Demonstrated accountability for development, coaching, talent pipeline and succession, networking, etc.
Demonstrated influence skill and ability
Supplemental benefits experience strongly preferred
