Dematic Operations Research Engineer in Austin, Texas

In Operations Research team, we design, optimize and implement intelligent idea to the warehouse, and may stay through the complete project process from sales to development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • R&D:

  • Understand the companies’ current product offering

  • Track the current process or product limitations and propose improvement plans

  • Document the current process and the proposed process

  • Communicate with stakeholders for R&D goals

  • Lead/Perform work on R&D effort, which include but not limited to:

  • Create data input

  • Model current process/product

  • Design future process/product

  • Model future process/product

  • Present findings to big group audience

  • Projects:

  • Provide technical support to sales

  • Lead a team of OR engineers to perform sales analysis

  • Write project proposals for distribution center operations detailing recommended solutions

  • Justify financial investment in proposed solutions

  • Present analysis findings to internal team and customer

  • Lead process design for supply chain applications in warehouse environments

  • Documentation of project requirement and process improvement documents

  • Other Duties:

  • Train junior OR engineers

  • Organize project activities, assign resources and determine expected project durations

  • Participate in product/project discussions with other R&D teams or project teams and propose improvement ideas

Travel to customer and other sites nationwide (possibly international) depending on phase


  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain, industrial engineering, or optimization related field

  • Master’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent field

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Math, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, other Engineering majors or equivalent field

  • Background/skills/experience at:

  • Manage technical projects from statement of work to project delivery

  • Data analysis

  • Simulation modeling

  • Mathematical modeling of processes and systems

  • Mathematical optimization (algorithm development) of processes and systems

  • ROI (Return on Investment) analysis skills

  • Risk analysis skills

  • Simulation modeling with AutoMod

  • Object-oriented programming skills – Java (preferred), Python (preferred), or VC++

  • Data analysis skills – Python (preferred), or R

  • Writing skills to create business documents (proposals, system specifications, and presentations) using both MS Word and PowerPoint
