The Senior Business Analyst is an experienced analyst who will gather and analyze data to aid in decision making, predict future outcomes, and solve complex problems. Acting independently, the Senior Business Analyst will serve as a technical expert in investment analysis and Business Intelligence. The Senior Business Analyst will be responsible for collecting and using data to evaluate and develop business opportunities, mitigate risk, and drive strategy. As part of the Innovation team, you will have the benefit of working out of The Capital Factory—the epicenter for entrepreneurship and innovation in Texas – with access to an elite mentor network and an abundance of on-site amenities. You will be part of a team with the goal of identifying and constructing new lines of business, partnerships, and investment opportunities that help break the cycle of child abuse by empowering children, families, and communities.

Essential Duties

  • Conducts extensive formal research and knowledge-gathering around business ideas and investment opportunities, including SWOT analysis

  • Prepares due diligence reports to determine the feasibility and applicability of potential business ideas

  • Creates business models and assists in the creation of business plans

  • Assists in the coordination, centralization, and mobilization of Agency data

  • Prepares monthly reports on the feasibility of a pipeline of business ideas and investment opportunities

  • Collaborates with the Director of Business Intelligence & Innovation to prioritize business ideas and identify new, sustainable lines of operations within the organization

  • Effectively communicates progress summaries of due diligence to the Director of Business Intelligence & Innovation to ensure awareness of activities, alignment with operational goals, and degree of resource investment

  • Establishes an environment of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning, a commitment to quality, welcomes and encourages collaboration, and fosters both intra and inter-department dialogue and respect

  • Assist in various administrative tasks and processes with direction from the Director of Business Intelligence & Innovation

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Working Relationships

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with management, staff, vendors, donors and other clients to ensure project needs and expectations are being met within project scope and meets the established deadline

  • Participate in cross-training activities, cross-functional (department) sharing of knowledge, share expertise and knowledge with Upbring teams and learn from others to expand knowledge

  • Work as team player and exhibit professional behavior and a positive attitude with both internal and external clients, vendors, and donors that reflects positively on the Agency and is consistent with Agency policies and practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or related field, or an equivalent in years of applicable work experience

  • 3 years’ work experience at a venture capital firm, investment bank, accelerator/incubator, and/or management consulting firm

  • Results-oriented with the ability to take ownership of research and work autonomously in an unstructured environment with minimal direction

  • Mission-driven professional who is passionate about innovation, startups, and emerging sectors

  • Exceptional research and analytical skills with a passion for the hunt for insights derived from formal research and knowledge gathering

  • Experience conducting SWOT analysis, due diligence reporting, creating business models, and scaling plans

  • Advanced proficiency in using PowerBI, Qlik, or DOMO

  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • A strong desire to serve and create change in ground-breaking ways

  • High integrity with the ability to apply sound judgement when making decisions

  • Ability to build positive relationships across the Agency; demonstrate tact, compassion and understanding. Receptive to other points of view in the interest of achieving best possible outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years combined experience at a venture capital firm, investment bank, accelerator/incubator, management consulting firm, and/or entrepreneurial organization

  • Proven due diligence experience analyzing new business lines, startup companies, or M&As

  • Strong personal business network

  • Experience working at a non-profit
