Diebold, Inc. Senior Software Systems Engineer in Austin, Texas


Senior Software Systems Engineer Professional Services team member aligned with Diebold Nixdorf’s Fuel and Convenience (FCI) North American Practice. Conduct analysis on US market requirements for FCI product and service offers specialized in Backoffice NAXML, including PDI, JDA etc. Provide Pre-Sales Support in customer meetings, translate functional requirements into solution architecture and design, create effort estimates, and provide general product Subject Matter Expertise for Diebold Nixdorf’s Fuel and Convenience Store (FCI) software solutions. Supporting pilot sites and delivering 2nd Level Plus support. While this role is US based and focused on delivering solutions to the US market there is still significant interface and dependency on the Global FCI Headquarters team in Europe.


  • Work with Sales Representatives in a pre-sales support role to meet with customers, determine their requirements, and provide solution expertise
  • Perform solutions demonstrations/presentations at customer and trade show venues
  • Coordinate and participate in the activities required with regard to Solution evaluations, Customer lab setup, Conference room pilot engagements, and Proof of concept pilots
  • Assist in the conducting GAP analysis meetings both internally and with customers
  • Provide sales support including requirements analysis and participate in the development of proposal material
  • Support of Backoffice integration FCI Self Checkout Pilots and Implementations
  • Work with Business Analysts and create architecture and design documentation and effort estimates from functional and non-functional requirements
  • Ensure solution architecture aligns with enterprise architecture principles and roadmaps

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Computer Science, Computer Software/Engineering, Business or equivalent related work experience and at least

  • 7 years of experience developing, supporting, implementing Retail Software solutions preferably in the Fuel and Convenience segment

  • The ultimate candidate will have a solid track record in relationship building, consulting, and customer service

  • 5+ years of experience in technology consulting

  • Solid understanding of the Business dynamics/drivers in US FCI market ( key vendors, standards, customers, channels.)

  • Knowledge of store systems, processes and applications

  • Deep knowledge of store Back office processes and applications

  • In depth understanding of NAXML (PDI, JDA …) back office interface and integration

  • Experience and network/relationships into the FCI back office solution industry

  • Working knowledge of standard retail Point of Sale interfaces including JAVA POS and OPEN POS. Advanced oral and written communication skills including formal presentations

  • Extensive knowledge of commonly used concepts related to software architecture and development

  • Working technical knowledge of operating systems, internet, and intranet technologies

  • Knowledge of databases, web interfaces, and coding

  • Expertise in writing detailed documentation using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

  • The ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations

  • Preferable experience in working within large multinational companies with offshore development centers

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally

  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

  • Other duties as assigned or required.
