By Light is hiring a Senior Systems / Storage Engineer to join our team supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Provides in-depth knowledge of enterprise environment management that ensures high-level of availability and performance, such as design, implementation, and sustainment plans
Provide routine IT customer support in both administrative and technical areas
Configure and maintain customer computer room equipment
Administer and maintain all customer servers, both physical and virtual
Analyze and report on daily event logs – provide corrective action as is required
Maintain a 99.999% operational availability not related to any VA related or responsible event
Perform monthly security/system patches and updates manually and through SCOM
Troubleshooting of basic IT services as needed
Daily use of ticketing system
Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure
Deals with a wide range of hardware and network technology issues in a high-volume, fast paced environment
Responsible for all assigned trouble tickets from creation to resolution
Ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values
Troubleshooting ranges from basic issues to email related issues for Executive level users
Train and/or advise mid-level and/or junior-level System Administrators performing similar work
Create and maintain a knowledge base of information to swiftly resolve any incoming issues while developing lessons learned to avoid future incidents
Administer server operating systems including performance monitoring, operations planning, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.
Perform daily system monitoring; verify the integrity and availability of all server resources, systems and key processes; review system and application logs; verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
Ability to work during non-business hours and participate on-call rotation
Bachelors degree and 5 years of experience, or 8 years of experience
Experience providing IT support to multiple work sites
Experience with MS Active Directory administration (Users, Groups, GPO, Security, etc)
Excellent customer service, communication and organizational skills are required
Excellent troubleshooting and problem resolution skills for Desktops and Laptops
Ability to work independently with minimal direction providing technical and non-technical support to multiple users
Capable to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Experience in the following areas:Migrating data while minimizing user downtime
Modernizing existing IT infrastructureNetwork administration support
Installation, support and maintenance of Microsoft servers
Knowledge of Active Directory, networking TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, DHCP, and VPN
Understanding of industry best practices surrounding proper maintenance and support of a 24x7 server infrastructure
Strong analytical problem solving skills
Ability to quickly grasp technical issues and offer solutions
Proven customer service and problem solving skills, working face-to-face and on-site with customers
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Deep experience and expertise in Microsoft Windows Server 2012, and related technologies such as backup systems, virus protection, desktop operating systems, etc
Detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of IP protocols, firewalls, and routers
Ability to Obtain VA Hi BI Clearance
