Licensed Court Interpreter Master Level – Spanish from the Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC) - is required for this position.
Under the general direction of the Court Administrator, the Court Clerk Interpreter interprets Court proceedings simultaneously, consecutively or by sight translations from English to Spanish as the target language. Translates forms, letters and other court-related documents as needed for Trial proceedings. This individual is required to deliver the service in a manner faithful to all canons of a Code of Professional Responsibility, follow the Code of Judicial Conduct and policies regarding court interpreting promulgated by the judiciary. This is accomplished by interpreting in a manner that includes everything that is said, preserves the tone and level of language, and neither changes nor adds anything to what is said. Other responsibilities include general support to the Court.
This position receives a $150 a month Interpreter Certification pay.
Interprets for all court settings. Including interpretation for court proceedings simultaneously, consecutively or by sight translation from English to Spanish as the target language
Accurately translates correspondence and related documents arising out of assigned caseload. May also prepare written translations of forms and other documents for the Court.
Responsible for correspondence between the defendant and the Court to include: SwiftReach call reminders, and mail, phone, and email related communication
Oversees and updates the Municipal Court's website content
Answers phones and communicates with the public and other City departments. Retrieves dispositions-cases closed out, maintains dockets and organizes records through an electronic filing system.
Prepares monthly statistical reports to provide to the Court Administrator and Judge
Performs all other duties as assigned
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Three years customer service or general office or clerk experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licensed Court Interpreter Master Level – Spanish from the Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC).
Advanced computer processing skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
Associate's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university or combination of equivalent year's education and experience.
Prior Court Clerk interpreter experience at a municipal or state level
Basic knowledge of theory, method, techniques, ethics and standards of interpreting and translating. Basic knowledge of English and appropriate foreign language phonology, vocabulary, grammar and dialectology. Ability to interpret in consecutive and simultaneous modes for proceedings of limited legal significance, hearings, interviews, and other court-related communicative events. Ability to translate forms, letters and other court-related documents from English to specified foreign language and from specified foreign language to English. Ability to multi-task, establish priorities, work independently, and maintain organization. Work requires continual attention to detail in entering, composing, typing and proofing data and materials. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations with both internal and external customers. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
