Job Description:

This role is being posted in a range and the offer will be made based on the candidates' qualifications.

This is an apprentice level position. The duties are to assist in performing service work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities; drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. Assist in responding to trouble calls, investigating, correcting, and clearing trouble, and provide assistance to construction and repair crews, as required. The following list sets forth the principal duties required for the job. All items apply to overhead and underground, as applicable. This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions. Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below.

Essential Job Functions & Tasks :

1.) Assist with maintenance and repair of overhead distribution/transmission lines, structures and equipment while performing duties in accordance with the Company safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.

2.) During the first six months in this classification, shall be capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision. Assist with work on conductors and equipment energized at secondary voltages to 600 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification.

3.) After six months in this classification, shall be capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under general supervision.

4.) During the SMC classification, under direct supervision, the employee may operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, and other sectionalizing devices, refuse line and transformer devices, test de-energized lines and equipment, and place or remove grounds. During this time frame, the employee may progress from direct supervision to immediate and finally general supervision as skill level dictates.

5.) After 18 months in this classification, for on-the-job training, may perform the duties of the first six months of the SMB classification when working under the direct supervision of an employee of higher classification.

6.) Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect conductors, fixtures and other associated equipment on overhead and underground facilities.

7.) Operate mechanized equipment required to install, remove or maintain overhead and underground transmission and distribution facilities.

8.) Become familiar with the use and care of live line tools.

9.) Become familiar with and use volt-amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers and other electrical test equipment associated with line work on voltages up to 600 volts.

10.) Load, unload, handle, install, maintain and remove poles, towers and structures.

11.) Assemble and erect equipment mountings such as regulator and transformer platforms.

12.) Apply various kinds of insulating protective equipment on facilities energized only at voltage qualified to work on.

13.) Build overhead transformer installations.

14.) Identify single and three-phase lines and determine their voltage and conductor size.

15.) Become familiar with series and parallel circuits.

16.) Gain poles in the air and install single, double and buck arms.

17.) Perform inspection, trouble-shooting of lines and report irregularities and abnormal conditions.

18.) Familiar and able to maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.

19.) Maintain records and submit reports as required.

20.) Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.

21.) Perform similar or less skilled work and assist employees of equal or higher classification.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as : successful completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver License.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must have the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job (Service Mechanic A, within the time frame determined by the Company, in this family and be qualified through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal or vacate the current job classification.

  2. Must have a good working knowledge of various circuit connections, voltage identification of lines, phasing, transformer connections and switching devices. Must know the fundamentals of electricity and have the ability to interpret field prints and switching diagrams, simple blueprints, one-line diagrams, instruction manuals and construction drawings.

  3. Must possess the ability to deal with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner.

  4. Must have the ability to use a computer and electronic devices and write legibly and record accurately.

  5. Must be able to distinguish colors.

  6. Must have the ability to work aloft on poles, towers and structures, use various tools, and operate equipment and finger manipulation of bolts/screws, etc.

  7. Tolerate awkward or stretched positions while working aloft and suspended from safety belt.

  8. Must be able to work at heights of up to 250 feet.

  9. Must be able to lift 75lbs. overhead.

  10. Must demonstrate familiarity with Company safety rules and practices and be proficient in the application of resuscitation and first aid.

  11. Must possess the ability to plan work and to properly instruct others.
