Job Description:

The Division of Research and Innovation Research Development Officer (RDO) is responsible for working directly with faculty, staff, departments, centers, and programs to promote scholarly and creative activities and identify and pursue strategic externally sponsored funding. Aligned with the TAMU-CC’s mission, the RDO helps to create a culture of innovation across campus to further TAMU-CC’s competitive positioning as a nationally and internationally recognized university in strategic research disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the leadership of the Division of Research and Innovation (R&I) in developing and implementing short-term and long-term strategies and programs that align with the university’s research goals and initiatives.

  • Support all stages of proposal development, including: analyzing funding announcements; translating research and program concepts into specific and competitive proposal narratives for external funding; consulting with faculty, research scientists, and others in the preparation of proposals; drafting non-technical portions of proposals where appropriate; coordinating resources and personnel in order to help faculty develop highly competitive research proposals; developing project timelines and identifying and compiling proposal components; managing projects that include complex multi-PI proposal preparation and content coordination with campus leaders and faculty; editing and critiquing proposal drafts; reviewing proposals not funded to develop re-submissions, and etc.

  • Assist with the formation of transdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and/or otherwise collaborative research teams, including proposal development and logistics across the institution, or with external institutional partners.

  • Consult with faculty about strategies on programs and projects that improve their competitive research capacity to obtain external funding.

  • Promote and support the development of faculty and researcher applications to prestigious and highly prestigious fellowships, awards, and honors.

  • Identify and distribute external sponsored funding opportunities and provide guidance and interpretation of those opportunities.

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of best practices, protocols and procedures related to obtaining and managing external funding.

  • Assist faculty in building relationships with corporate and industry partners and in seeking funding from those sponsors.

  • Coordinate and conduct workshops, seminars and training related to research and proposal development and funding opportunities, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary research.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with individuals at various levels and offices throughout the University, including the Division, to ensure successful integration of all grant components.

  • Understand the research needs and future research directions with assigned disciplines.

  • Work in close collaboration with the R&I especially the Office of Sponsored Research Administration and the Office of Community Outreach.

  • Work with the Marketing and News offices to support the development and dissemination of annual reports, research stories, and other publications that support the research enterprise and research engagement.

  • Provide research development programs, training, and professional development including workshops and consultations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree.

  • Three (3) years of related experience working with relevant extramural grants and contracts in an academic setting, to include at least 2 years of significant editing and advising responsibilities regarding scientific and administrative components.

  • Additional education may be used as a substitution for the minimum experience requirements:

  • Masters degree and one (1) year of experience working with relevant extramural grants and contracts in an academic setting, to include experience with significant editing and advising responsibilities regarding scientific and administrative components.

  • Doctoral degree.

  • Successful track record of garnering funding from proposals to one or more federal agencies.

  • Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret complex scientific or technical data, including the ability to translate difficult technical information into language suitable for target audience(s).

  • Project management skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary:

  • $4,180.17 - $5,992.67 Monthly ($50,162 - $71,912 annual)
